As seen in rural North Carolina.
It's just iPhone photos, but the top one has some foreground for sense of scale.

(53,951 posts)I went out a few minutes ago and saw it. I thought it was another planet, then I saw it "twinkle." I then thought it was a plane because it appeared to move slowly, but it was moving too slowly. But, it very bright not to be "put out" by the moon's light. Anyone know what star that is?

(2,252 posts)...I initially wrote 'shots' instead of 'photos', then I realized I would probably be alerted and end up int gundgeon. Whew!
As I related in a reply to Omaha Steve's thread on the conjunction (http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2234638), I was able to get a predusk view of the Moon and Jupiter at around 5:00 PST. As the air cooled, the fog and cloud cover increase, but I took these photos at around 5:30 and 6:00 pm respectively, still 2 hours before closest approach. The second photo has the nice addition of a haloed moon; the blue smudge is some lens artifact, and the elongated Jupiter is a camera jingle. Fifteen minutes after taking these the fog hid Jupiter completely.
