I know there have been stupid people down through history, but that's kind of sad.

the U.S. Army, and they still thought it was Civil War. They actually made a kind of snide comment, "ok Mr historian!" It was all about it making them cry.

...so it must have been the Civil War. I mean, like, how many are there?

It's only about WW1 if it's about biplanes or trenches. Mostly biplanes.

Probably educated the same way as you or I. Not a lot of interest in history or good historical knowledge out there.

I try to shy away from saying John and Jane Average are morons, because that's not really my style. But as somebody who has taught history, I can tell you first hand that it's an uphill battle. A lot of people unfortunately lack the most basic knowledge. Of course, I'm sure that goes for a lot of other subjects too.

Let me also take this opportunity to invite all DUers to the history forums here. There's a free tote bag with every subscription (ok not really)

I keep running into questions about history while doing my genealogy, so it will be nice to have a place to go to ask questions.

I mean they had horses in Korea-Col Potter had Sophie.

I love animals in general and horses in particular. I don't want to see this movie if it portrays the destruction of horses by enfilading machine gun fire and barbed wire. War is Hell but WW I eliminated horse cavalry from war except in places like North Africa.

The recruiter is not real bright and is GROSSLY overpaid. The driver is a real trooper but not real sharp. She trained me and I blew by her expertise wise in a couple weeks. We also register blood donors and do data entry. It was no time before I was also handling minor IT stuff that they wouldn't have trusted her with.

It just shows you how little some people know about history. It's so easy for politicians to misslead people like that.

After WWI. This horse trader was working out of the Chicago stock yards and for a while no horses went to slaughter because so many had been killed in Europe, the Europeans were buying nearly every horse. For the Germans who had him finding horses for them, the only criteria was that the horses had to be tall.

Also, remember that not all the horses that died were killed by the war. A strain of the "Spanish" flu also hit horses hard and it was carried all over the world like the flu that killed so many millions of humans.

I can't wait to see it now. You'd think they would have gathered it was in Europe at some point. France I presume.

No way I could have made that up. It would never have occured to me anyone would be that clueless.
