The gun "outrage du jour" occupies prodigious numbers of people and consumes inordinate levels of resources (from first responders, to hospital plant and staff, to security "experts", to news media).
Maybe the NRA could use that angle in their pro-gun propaganda. "DO YOUR PART FOR THE ECONOMY--BLOW SOMEBODY AWAY TODAY."
