Really; I don't care what you think about it ....

I'll use the analogy of 'half the voters voting for either party' as a cast, give or take two or three points either way ....

Nice that you try to blunt the message, though .... This message needed blunting, and there you were ...

Nice that your friends are moving on, too ... You just need more friends ....

go for it. I find hyperbole tedious.

There is no room to blunt the message in the OP but I refuse to paint an entire half of the population as reactionary extremists.

I have many many friends... most are democrats, socialists, and anarchists... and a few are libertarians and republicans. Fortunately, my liberal and leftist friends understand the power of gentle persuasion and, in social situations, never jumped to "you are a racist!", but engaged in thoughtful dialogue over specific issues and, in the process of doing so, managed to get a few of those libertarians and republicans to vote for Obama.

I do both phone and door to door canvassing during every election cycle... local, state, and federal... I'll take the time to talk issues with anyone from any political affiliation but what I won't do is walk away from a discussion with a republican because of a knee-jerk assumption that they are my enemy. There are other DUers who do this too. And they've posted their successes in perhaps moving a republican to the democrat side.

Wed Jan 23, 2013, 03:23 AM

is just a few percentage points.

Never mind that roughly half the people didn't even vote, and a significant chunk of people can't name the current president (I guess those people just wish this on "whatzhisname&quot .

Perhaps another analogy will help. Imagine you're playing horseshoes and you're trying to hit the stake 40' in front of you, but instead you throw it 100 miles in front of you. Close enough to measure, right?

These people are disgusting assholes of the highest level, but nothing truly "blunts the message" like ridiculous hyperbole.

What is this ?... a court of law ?

I stand at opposition to the GOP .... As far as I am concerned; they ALL think like that .... Until proven otherwise: ANY of them that does not condemn vocal threats to the President, his cabinet, Liberals in general ... If they do not condemn that talk, then they tacitly condone it (much like Colin Powell noted last weekend) .... There have been little if any voice in the GOP that stands against violent threats to the President and his party ....

You go be mister nice guy ..... I'll stick to the 'ridiculous hyperbole', and shove it back in their face ...

They do nothing but shove your face in the mud anytime they have power, and YOU wanna be decent and respectful ??? ...

They, at long last, deserve polemic and ridicule .... I don't care if it's 'a few tweets' ....

I have been on this earth a long enough time to know that MANY I have come in contact with over the years think the same way ... MANY talk of using violence to rid themselves of Liberals/Democrats .... I have heard it all my life ...

Two are my brothers and one is my sister ... and countless acquaintances who lean right ....

You can lighten up on them, if you wish, but I am not beholden to believe these thoughts inhabit only 'a handful of tweets' ...

I know better than that .... They are everywhere ....

As a final note: I will never visit my sister's house again - She threatened to shoot any Obama supporter who crossed onto her property .... Even after pointing out that her own brother and sister support the President, she simply repeated her threat ...

How do you like them apples ? .... Sweet and nice !

I don't want to sound like a fool. I don't want to broad brush half of Americans (or more precisely, less than half of the people who voted which is only about half of the people in this country) by assuming they think exactly the same as a handful of psychos on twitter.

Such hyperbole sometimes has the unintended effect of making one sound close enough to the unbalanced people on the other side that it can be difficult to tell the two sides apart.

I don't expect repukes to comment on some 16 year old girl or some keyboard cowboy's idiotic tweets any more than I expect our president to comment on them. It would be nice to see them defend them, though, because then they'd be in a position of having to defend EVERYONE who doesn't like the president, and that could take up a lot of their time that would otherwise be spent fucking up the country.

The difference between these people and their parents is that when their parents were their age, only their teachers and smart friends knew how stupid they really were. Social media exposes the lowest of the low in the brains/common sense of people.

An aside, I find it amazing how dense some people are. On the Jaywalking segment of the Tonight Show, Jay asked a young schoolteacher how many stars were on a flag, the camera then panned up to an American flag waving in the breeze. She responded with "I can't tell, it's moving around too much".

have ever lived through a presidential assassination, and understand how deeply disturbing it can be. I was a young child when JFK was assassinated, but I can still remember the shock and fear that was in the air. And of course RFK and MLK as well. And I'll stand behind no one in my loathing for Reagan, but on the day that he was shot I was stunned and sickened until it became clear that he'd survive. There is nothing as devastating to the national psyche than an assassination.

48. Hi JoeyT
Wed Jan 23, 2013, 02:19 PM
Jan 2013

I don't really fear being "flagged" in that all of my postings in DU and elsewhere condemn violence explicitly ... I am pacifist, and have always been pacifist throughout my life ... My record is clear of any use of threatening language when referring to the government, or of any officials of any organisation of any type ...

Threats like those displayed have never been expressed by me towards anybody .. ever ...

That being said; I will resist calls to remove them wholesale from this thread ... Everybody should be aware of what is being said and by whom ... These are real threats from real people, and I find them absolutely chilling when we consider the ease at which they are cast out in public .... Each of those tweets should be shown, not only to the authorities, but to every Democrat and republican so we are all aware of what kind of threats are being made and by whom, so nobody can pretend this level of rancor and hatred does not exist.

These cockroaches need the light of day to shine on their hateful little lives ...

I changed the title, but the thread stands as testament to the reality of this hatred ...

I will remove the thread if requested by David, Dave or Brian.

I fear that advertising those threats as you have spreads their readership. Tweets are not searchable on Google. DU threads are. The more people who see these things, the more dangerous it is to the President. You could present the same information by taking a few minutes to compose a thread and not further endanger the President's life. If the threats are dangerous, spreading them to a wider readership is dangerous as well.

The day JFK was assassinated, a biology teacher at our school, a Mr. Vanlandingham, said that it was the best thing that could have happened to the country to get rid of the Kennedys. There were a lot of happy conservatives that day. Elated even.

It was common to hear speeches imploring the Congress to "Impeach Earl Warren" because the Warren Court upheld Brown vs. Board. The racial hate is baked into the minds of the insecure haters who need to feel "superior" in a very sick way; but they out themselves to the sane world.
