More Reason For Joy: We now have a Lieberman-free Congress.
There's room for more joy
1. Lest we forget, Joe Lieberman is outta there! When, sometime in December, he gave his farewell speech in the Senate, only one fellow senator remained to listen.
For years Joe Lieberman had been a sinister drone in the sky of liberals who never liked his militarism and his unlimited support of close ties to Israel. In probably the most blatant show of ego of his lifetime of ego trips, he refused to accept his loss to a fellow Democrat for his senate seat. He quickly organized a bogus third party and went after winner, Ned Lamont, with everything he had -- and won. I don't think anyone liked him after that. It's rumored that Mrs. Lieberman is among those for whom that vicious last race for his Senate seat was simply unacceptable.
We now have a Lieberman-free Congress. This could only be improved on, in my book, by the dispatch of Mitch McConnell by Ashley Judd.
2. Lest we forget, one of the great triumphs of Obama 1 was the combination of the auto industry bailout with (and we do tend to forget this) their eventual economic triumph. But what needs to be emphasized that the bailout and the growing success of the industry also allowed for the administration's imposition of more stringent fuel standards. Twofer. Really nice.
