Indiana Senate leader says right-to-work could make it to governor's desk before Super Bowl

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's Republican Senate leader says he expects right-to-work legislation to become law before the Feb. 5 Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

Senate President Pro Tem David Long says he plans a final vote on Wednesday on the divisive legislation.

Senate President Pro Tem David Long says he plans a final vote on Wednesday on the divisive legislation. Gov. Mitch Daniels has said he will sign the bill making Indiana the 23rd right-to-work state.

The proposal to ban unions from collecting mandatory fees for representation cleared its toughest hurdle this week when it passed the House after Democrats ended a boycott of the measure.

Long said on Thursday he hopes passing the bill before the Super Bowl will keep union protesters away from the event. A Senate version of the bill faced little opposition earlier this week, and the chamber is expected to easily pass the House version.
