Why did men stop wearing high heels?

Beautiful, provocative, sexy - high heels may be all these things and more, but even their most ardent fans wouldn't claim they were practical.

They're no good for hiking or driving. They get stuck in things. Women in heels are advised to stay off the grass - and also ice, cobbled streets and posh floors.

And high heels don't tend to be very comfortable. It is almost as though they just weren't designed for walking in.

Originally, they weren't.

The real question is, why didn't the ladies quit wearing them?

and an extreme bunion caused me to undergo two foot surgeries. I suppose being 62 makes it less of a sacrifice to give up on wearing cute and sexy shoes, but I gave them up 12 years ago, and it was harder to do so then.

Such shoes are much cuter now, too, than when I wore them. They have so many more clever designs. But I stick with my comfy SAS walking shoes (I call them granny oxfords).

I also stopped wearing dresses and skirts, because they look awful with the shoes I am able to wear. My feet are so damaged that I can't even wear most flats or running or walking shoes. I find a running or walking type sport shoe--usuallu Asik--for daily wear, and granny oxfords for dress-up.

Sigh.

So I read that leggings are now back in style for both genders. There's a reason they went out of style - bad looking legs and nowadays there's no top they look good with.

As a practical matter, working men would not have been able to. Maybe aristocrats did, since they didn't have to walk much or perform labor.

That is their main role, other than making some very short people feel taller (I think that was the only reason some men wore them).

Basically it's all about vanity and sex appeal.

P.S. - on edit... I'm not saying that is a bad thing. I'm all about vanity myself.
