What are the prospects for gay marriage in the R.I. Senate?

I've been hearing that there is a hangup over religious exemptions for institutions. I think we need to be careful with this. I think we can all agree that no church/synagogue/mosque should be required to perform or recognize a same sex union, but beyond that I am hesitant to give out more exemptions.

Next thing you know its caterers, florists, wedding planners, reception hall owners, photographers, DJ's, bands and hairdressers who can say that they have a religious based objection to gay marriages and refuse service to a gay couple.

If you are not careful about granting these exemptions you can really end up making gay marriages less than equal.
