NBA Denver Nuggets star Faried appears in video with his lesbian moms, supporting civil unions

Denver Nuggets star forward Kenneth Faried appeared in a video with his two mothers who entered into a civil union in New Jersey in 2007, advocating the passage of a civil unions law in Colorado.

“Nobody can ever tell me I can’t have two mothers because I really do,” said Faried.

Faried’s two mothers, Carol and Waudda, have been together for 11 years. Waudda has lupus. In the video, they say civil union protections have helped Carol care for her partner.

The video by One-Colorado.org is advocating for the passage of Colorado Senate Bill 11 that would allow gay couples to enter civil unions.

The bill has passed a senate committee and is heading to appropriations.

Moving forward step by step.
Sports figures and teams can have a great effect in changing attitudes. I have seen more support for the LGBT community from that sector in the last year than in a lot of previous years combined.

I really hope the bill passes. Then we can work on getting the no gay marriage amendment struck from the state constitution. What a waste of legislative time that was!

it had the support last year but got sandbagged by the speaker of the house. and i think we can get that amendment overturned in the next couple election cycles.

And he is making the very conservative point that marriage equality is important for his moms because they take care of each other through thick and thin. He would not having the career he is having if he had dropped out of college to care for his mom. And his mom might be relying on social services for care if it was not for her partner and the good salary I am sure her son is earning now.
