Louisiana Will Eliminate Health Benefits For HIV Patients, Poor Children, And First Time Moms This Week
By Sy Mukherjee on Jan 29, 2013 at 3:20 pm
Last week, Louisianas poor and terminally ill residents won a surprising victory when Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) announced that his state would not stop providing hospice care to its Medicaid beneficiaries. Unfortunately, thats about the only piece of good news for low-income Louisianans health coverage, as the state is still set to implement massive cuts for Medicaid programs that provide behavioral health services for at-risk children, offer case management visits for low-income HIV patients and pay for at-home visits by nurses who teach poor, first-time mothers how to care for their newborns this Friday.
While Jindal administration officials argue that the cuts could be mitigated by Medicare and private managed care programs, the reality is that many of these specialty services are simply unavailable or unaffordable outside of Medicaid:
Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce Greenstein said he targeted programs that were duplicative, costly and optional under the states participation in the state-federal Medicaid program.
Greenstein said in many instances, people can get the care theyre losing through other government-funded programs. But he acknowledged that wont happen in every case, meaning some people will simply lose the services or receive reduced services. [...]

(39,343 posts)LA is full of "family values" voters (anti-abortion,...) or at least that's how I remember it from 13+ years ago when I lived there. Stop voting for the party that wants you to die only because they purport to be anti abortion. If you continue to vote for Jindal and these other pukes you deserve what you get.

(20,776 posts)They are selfish, self indulgent and greedy as hell. They care about no one but themselves. They are the kind of person who would climb over and step on a persons face to get what they want. How they get along, together is the amazing part. Its a wonder they don't shoot each other to get what they want.
IF you went to a Tea Party meeting, and dropped 40 thousand US dollar bills in the middle of the floor, and closed the door, within a half hour there would be one or two standing, grinning holding the cash.

(20,776 posts)When I think of Evil, I think in the Religious sense.. demons, devils.. Evil is the opposite of Live. (Live backwards is Evil) which I think is where it came from. So anti-life. I guess in that sense, maybe it is. But when people normally talk about Evil, they usually link it to spiritual beliefs. It seems that way to me...
Being greedy and selfish is part of Human Nature.

(16,072 posts)You and others always equate evil with religion...demons and devils are just images, true evil is found in the heart of man!
What Jindal is planning is evil pure and simple, because his greed will cause the weakest to suffer and in many cases to die...that in and of itself is evil!

(20,776 posts)In terms of definition, I prefer how Buddhists refer to evil. Since it would take too long to explain I will just post
a link: http://buddhism.about.com/od/basicbuddhistteachings/a/evil.htm
In early Shinto there were evil spirits as well, but most priests would tell you they were misguided or confused spirits and could be
redirected toward the good. Shinto has changed since then where its all come down to learning social curtsies and while there are superstitions, people learn to go out of their way to be polite.

(10,602 posts)I do not care where such actions come from. Having been raised Catholic in moral theology greed and avarice was number 1 of the 7 deadly sins. And in my 69 years on this planet I have seen much evil caused by greed.
I do believe they know they are wrong yet they persist in punishing the vulnerable in particular women. I worked a welfare to work program for 6 years in the late 1970's and early 1980's putting welfare clients to work. We had a very good program that helped many young women get a job and become independent enough to raise their children. It was a very difficult job then. Now it is impossible.
Now women and children in need of welfare and assistance are condemned to a life of poverty because the GOP changed our program into a program of intimidation and punishment. They took away all the supportive services and created a program that forced women to take jobs where they could NOT be financially independent.
Because I was faced with being stuck in such a program as an employment specialist I retired rather than engage in such an activity. My orders were to do all I could to throw women off of welfare essentially when they had no means to get a decent job.
And since I left the GOP is doubling down on their war on women and are now doubling down again since the lost the election. With my background I have personally seen how their policies have effected the children of these women.
What the GOP is about goes well beyond the war on women as well. And they know what they are doing. There is no way a normal person can do what they are doing and NOT know that what they do is wrong.

(20,776 posts)Its not that they know that its wrong... its that they just don't give a damn about their fellow human being. However, if their neck is on line, they will get on their knees and BEG to be helped. They are messed up just that way.

(30,058 posts)Jindal is trying to make a way for the presidency and by the Constitution he is not eligible to be since both his parents was not citizens of the US at the time of his birth and as we have learned from the birthers a president has to be a natural born citizen.

(30,058 posts)parents to be a citizen. At the time of his birth neither parent was a citizen, check the Constitution since the president and vice president has to be a natural born citizen. Yes the birthers attempted to claim Obama was born else where and if he had been born in a country other than the US one of his parents (his mother) was a citizen of the US. As in the case of McCain who was born in Panama but his parents was US citizens.

(2,286 posts)is a full U.S. citizen. Don't you remember all the stink made about Mexicans running across the border to give birth so the child was a U.S. citizen? What you are talking about is if a child is born outside of the country. Two different things.
