(915 posts)No traffic in the big city, just the occasional distant whistling wind. Forty miles to the red line. Gonna hit about 8:30-9pm. I am in position.

(64,920 posts)At least the weathermen won't be whining about drought conditions. Or maybe they are just whining about the lack of draught beer!!

(3,310 posts)I'm pretty close to Danville, VA, just south of the line. We've probably another 45 minutes to an hour before the torrent gets here.
This is a really good tool: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxMap.aspx
Intellicast has just upgraded the hell out of the page. There are tons of layers and tools on it now.

(3,310 posts)It rained biblically for about an hour and the winds have been pretty stiff, but by the time it got to us it was losing some strength. I've seen some rains when I lived down in Florida that were about as dramatic. Fortunately, no lightning, so we got off pretty easy where I am. Just to the north of us, the Dan River is full and Danville, VA had some street flooding. If it floods up on the hill where I live, the whole world has bigger problems
I really appreciate your asking.
