A dog is set to be put to death in Tennessee today after his owner abandoned him because he thought he was gay.

The pitbull-type hound is currently languishing in an overcrowded animal shelter in Jackson but is due to be put this afternoon down unless a new owner can be found at the last minute.

According to the owner of the shelter, the dog's master noticed him 'hunched over' another male dog, which led him to assume he was gay.

... view Americans as total idiots? These stories get reported in UK papers.

A couple of salient remarks in the comments on the article:

Dear dear dear......what an utter moron of a human being....they are about to euthanize the wrong creature!!!!!!

I have never read such nonsense. Lots of dogs do that. They are just being dominant. Nothing else. How can you be that stupid to want to put the dog down for that. I hope he gets a home and is not put down. I despair of the human race.

And guess what? Even neutered male dogs and cats can masturbate, and many do (ask me how I know this, lol).

9. Just telling the other dog he is the leader

This is just asserting pack order and who wants to be the leader.... puppies do it,females do it, always a changing dynamic with dogs and they ofter
try to move up. Usually young stronger animals just trying to see if they can be top dog. Neutered or un neutered, dogs just try to
create a pack situation and decide who should be the leader. I like this dog, he would be the dog you could probably train easily as
he already it thinking for himself and you could just direct him in a good direction. So far away... so hope there is someone to take him. A handsome guy!

Fortunately, we do seem to be making some headway on issues. At least in my part of Tennessee.
