GOOD NEWs: Elton, the ‘Gay’ Dog, Spared the Gas Chamber

The dog was left with a rabies control shelter in Jackson, Tenn., this week “not because he’s mean or tears things up… But because his owner says he’s gay!” the group Jackson TN Euthanasia, which tries to find homes for dogs in kill-shelters, posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

“He hunched another male dog so his owner threw him away because he refuses to have a ‘gay’ dog!” the group wrote in a post that went viral, leading to thousands of comments online and hundreds of people calling the shelter.

One of those callers was Stephanie Fryns, a veterinary tech from Jackson, who rescued the bulldog-mix. She named him Elton.

.................

Fryns said the pooch weighed 50 pounds, and “was pretty friendly so far. He’s pretty scared of everything, which is understandable. But he loved the car ride.”

not that there would be anything wrong with the dog if he were gay but since odds are he is just a dog being a dog I imagine he will be happy to get to know a female when the time comes.

I think my little Blue WaWa (half blue heeler half chihauhua ) would mount ME if he could. He is the most dominating dog I have ever owned.

Will tell you that one humping another, regardless of the sex of either,is almost always a display of dominance, and comes as naturally to them as breathing does.....

Anyone witless enough to think for even a second, that a dog could be gay, shouldn't ever be allowed to "own" one.....

It's normal doggie behavior. The human who dumped him for it is an idiot! Poor pup. At least he got a good home out of it.

We have a female Airedale who at 60+ pounds, humps our little 15 pound male Pappi-poo...Usually after they've chased each other around the yard, she has to show him who's boss.....

Of course he just casually walks out from under her....

.... other animal species have been shown to have partners of the same gender, so why not dogs?

I have an ACD (neutered male) who was always pretty asexual until our Catahoula foster kid, Max, came into the house. Hank grooms him, follows him, seems un-naturally concerned when I'm clipping Max's nails or bathing him, and yes, humps him whenever he can get away with it.

I suppose there must be an exception to prove any rule,if that's the case, which I doubt...

I am aware of studies, over past years that indicate other animal species have been shown to have partners of the same gender, but I haven't seen canines listed among those that might.....Just as studies that show some animals pursue sex for pleasure don't cite dogs as being one of them...Dogs are incited or provoked into sex primarily by the scent of a female in season....A male,or even a spayed female would be unable to initiate that scent....

What you describe,to me,sounds like a display of dominance....

Two of my kids bring their dogs over almost every day to play with my two, a female Boston (Lucy) and a male SharPei (Seamus). The kids have a female daschund, a female Boston and a female Border Collie. Many times it's orgy porgy all afternoon, when they're not just plain old wrestling! All dogs do that, not just males either.

Some people are so stupid.

BTW, all of our dogs are some sort of rescue--either abandonment, neglect, bad breeder, puppy mill. We love all of them to death, humping and all.
