Conservative plan: Romney in '12, then "true Christian" in 2016

Right now, I truly believe the conservative plan is to get Obama out of office, no matter what it takes. If that means biting their tongues and voting for a Mormon, they'll take the lesser of two evils. Keep in mind that many of these folks still believe that Obama is a "Kenyan born Muslim" with communist leanings.

If Romney wins, then you can bet they'll work on finding a "true Christian conservative" to run against him in the 2016 primaries.

No, if Romney wins this year, the Party won't primary a republican incumbent in 2016. no_hypocrisy Jan 2012 #3

Came from Tim Russert during the early part of the 2008 primary when the GOP still had seven or eight candidates. He said the easy winner would be former Florida Governor Jeb Smith....."if his last name were just Smith instead of Bush."

They'll have to wait for 2020 to get their Protestant Pope into the White House.

Most recently in 1976 and 1992.

Romney would still be the 'establishment' nominee, but I could see a Pat Buchanan type Christian challenger.
