Myth #7: Guns make women safer.

Myth #7: Guns make women safer.

Fact-check: In 2010, nearly 6 times more women were shot by husbands, boyfriends, and ex-partners than murdered by male strangers.

• A woman's chances of being killed by her abuser increase more than 7 times if he has access to a gun.

• One study found that women in states with higher gun ownership rates were 4.9 times more likely to be murdered by a gun that women in states with lower gun ownership rates.

Once you defeat that mythic meme, maybe people can actually be safer.

BTW, kpete, they're running out of arguments and we are all going to keep reminding them with every incident.

As always, my friend.

Since owning or being in proximity to a gun is so dangerous, I propose that we give every felon an AR-15 and Glock 21 and 2000 rounds of ammunition upon release from prison. According to you, it should only be a short time that all criminals are dead and the country will then be crime free.

Win/Win!

so is it or is it not a myth that you are more likely to die being around guns? I'm confused. First you say that "guns make you safer" is a myth. Then you say that owning guns is dangerous is "rubbish". Please be consistent.

Um, I do believe that when they said, and I quote:Guns make women safer, they meant that that's when the women has a gun. And, it doesn't really matter if he has a gun or not if there are 6 in. long knives in the kitchen, rat poison under the sink, duck tape and rope in the garage and a nice handy pillow in the bedroom now does it? Any thing can be used as a weapon, from a sharpened credit card, to a pencil, to a book to, yes, a gun as well.
