Chrysler Group LLC will announce next week it will hire more than 1,600 workers to an Illinois assembly plant, signaling the start of a hiring blitz that promises to add thousands of workers to the auto maker's plants over the next three years.
Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne is expected to make the announcement during a visit to the auto maker's Belvidere assembly plant Thursday, according to people familiar with the matter. The plant will manufacture the 2013 Dodge Dart compact car alongside the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot, which are being updated for the 2013 model year.
The additional crew of workers starts in July, and hiring has already begun, those people said. Workers will be paid the auto maker's new hire rate of $15.78 an hour. Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson declined to comment.
The job expansion will be the first in a series of new hiring announcements that the auto maker is expected to make to meet growing demand for its cars and trucks. These jobs are in addition to hiring planned for its Jefferson North plant in Detroit and a Toledo, Ohio, assembly complex on the move.

Hell yeah I support tariffs. Better yet, how about an embargo on cheap labor countries?
We're gonna need to throw out almost EVERY politician in office to get that ball rolling though...

(51,076 posts)My first new car was a '67 belvedere 11, two door hardtop, burgundy colored paint with black interior. Driving it like I stole it I got 21 to 22 mpg. A time or two I even got 23 mpg. In early 1967 when I bought it it cost $2267.00. I was a big dawg back then or thought I was anyway
Have you noticed that you don't see the chinless wonder or the orange man much anymore on our teevees. I think they're laying low to try to take the electorates consciousness away from the bullshit of the last three years of working for defeating a president rather than doing their job as senators and representatives. This win come November is going to be a big one considering the odds we're up against. Its definitely going to feel good.
People can see that all the while when the country needed leadership all we got was republicon bullshit and my feelings is that will show in this next election.
Gobama and all the rest of the Dems. Our country needs you guys and gals. real bad

(13,418 posts)the worker will make $32,822/yr. Nothing was said about benefits and how much of that $32,822 would have to go toward those benefits.
Don't have kids on that income....won't be able to put them through college.
I can't believe that people think this great news. It's a job that a single person can make a decent living. Don't have a family.
Workers of the world unite....
I can't believe posters are 'bouncing' over this....while the Banksters are putting it up your arse.

(31,232 posts)How much is enough for an entry level job? Should they start out at $250k? I'm sure you think you've made some huge point, but if you're one of the long term unemployed, who was beginning to wonder if you'd ever work again, getting back into the workforce is a huge boost. It's certainly a lot more than you can make on unemployment. Baby steps. Ever hear of them?
