[big] ABC's The Note: It’s On! Newt, Mitt to Hold Dueling Ham House Events[/big]
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/01/primary-day-showdown-in-the-works-newt-mitt-double-booked/

At 7:45 p.m. on Friday night, a spokesman for the Gingrich campaign sent out the press advisory schedule for Saturday, noting a 10:45 a.m. event at the restaurant.

Then, approximately 10 minutes later, the Romney campaign sent out their own advisory, with the very same stop listed at the same time.

Nobody at the restaurant answered the phone Friday evening. A Romney campaign aide said the scheduling conflict is a “pure coincidence” and “We are not changing our schedule.”

But the regional director of the Gingrich campaign for Greenville, Caroline Vanvick, called her close friend Tommy Stevenson — the Tommy of Tommy’s Country Ham House — and woke him up. Stevenson told Vanvick he is the only person that bookings go through and that Romney has never contacted him. Newt Gingrich is confirmed, Romney is not.

One more bizarre story from a very bizarre campaign.

[big] Some of us DO take jury service seriously, you know.[/big]
And I am hoping, in time, the ones who prove not to take it seriously will end up weeded out. We are at 5-ish weeks into this and, for the most part, on the juries I have been on, they've gotten it right (at least what I find to be right IMO).

The banning last week of a friend and fellow sports forum member was kind of a shock to the system in a "You're not on DU2 anymore, Dorothy" sort of way.

I do think (call me naive, I can take it) it will all work itself out in the end and be no worse, if not better than, the old place. Have a great day DU.

[big] 11. Blue Box. If you ignore it, Skinner sends you a contempt citation [/big]
Then you have to appear before him, and explain that you had to be with your sick aunt in Newark, and couldn't possibly serve on a jury. You'll repeat this cycle twice until you finally are told by your attorney that you can't get out of jury duty this time. Then the blue box will appear again. You will immediately be taken to a flamefest between two posters you love dearly. You will now choose who you love more. Eventualy, you will vote to hide their threads, and label them both as terms of service violators. You'll then obsess over the ramifications of your decisions for years, and will spend thousands in psychotherapy bills. You'll then decide that nothing is worth the pain of jury service, and you will loudly announce that you are no longer a registered voter.....

...then Skinner will remind you that this is a political website for Democrats. For whom does the tombstone fall? It falls for thee..........

[big] 6. Thank you for your post on this matter. Can you spare a few minutes of your time? You can? Good. [/big]
1. Did you find that the respondents to your OP stayed on topic?

A. Yes.
B. No.
C. My Grandmother used to be a knife-thrower in a circus act.

2. Is there a particular reason that use chose this specific topic to post on DU today?

A. No, not really. I have a long list of petty grievances that irk me; this is just the current one.
B. I am actually somewhat compulsive, and fill out every survey asked to IRL...AND I CAN'T STOP IT.
C. Even though the Chuckles the Clown had broken up with her only the week previous to the incident and was tragically killed by Grandma during one of her performances, his death was ruled as an accident at the inquest.

3. Did you find today's current posting experience to be a pleasant one?

A. Yes
B. No.
C. Grandma taught me how to roll my own cigarettes with one hand when I was twelve, and how to fashion a silencer for a firearm out of a tomato soup can and a roll of toilet paper.

4. Do you have any suggestions as how we could improve today's posting experience for you?

A. No, it's about as good as it gets.
B. I would like to have the ability to beat some posters over the head with a large hard salami. It wouldn't improve anything, I just like beating people in the head with cured lunchmeat products.
C. Mom said that it was up to us kids to help her keep Grandma away from Dad on her visits, because Mom said that Grandma liked to get "too friendly" with just about any man she laid eyes on.

5. Did you find that posting in The Lounge is a good value for your money?

A. You have *got* to be kidding me.
B. Absolutely. It's cheaper than boxed wine, with no blinding hangover the next morning. Most of the time.
C. Grandma taught us kids that the most important thing in life is to remember when it's your first day in prison to always pick a fight with the toughest inmate there, in order to establish your cred right away.

6. One last question, when was the last time you had an affair with a one-eyed woman?

A. Never.
B. Define "Affair".
C. Sorry, Grandma wanted me to ask you this. She said you'd hardly notice that she had only one eye after she got you good and drunk, then tied you to the bed.

Thank you for your time in completing our survey. We enjoyed your participation and wasting your time filling out something that no one will ever pay any attention to whatsoever.

Have A Nice Day!

[big] Judge says Obama must appear in ‘birther’ suit [/big]
Judge says Obama must appear in ‘birther’ suit

By Agence France-Presse
Monday, January 23, 2012

WASHINGTON — A judge in Georgia has ordered President Barack Obama to appear in court this week in a lawsuit challenging whether he is a natural-born US citizen qualified to be president.

The latest case was spawned by the so-called “birther” movement that has made claims — which have not been substantiated — that Obama was born overseas.

Although it is unclear whether a court could force a sitting president to appear in a court case, Georgia Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi has denied a motion by the president’s lawyer to quash a subpoena that requires Obama to show up.

A Georgia resident made the complaint, which is intended to keep Obama’s name off the state’s ballot in the March presidential primary.

[big] Mitt & Newt Challenge Each Other to personally "Get Castro."[/big]
Republican Candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich
unexpectedly crossed paths on the campaign trail in Florida
today, and a spontaneous debate broke out over which one
was stronger in their determination to "get Castro." The two
met with surprise just off the sand at Miami Beach and
quickly engaged, their voices rising with anti-Castro vitriol.

ROMNEY: I have always been more anti-Castro than you, my friend.
All the time I was at Bain I thought of little else but how I hated
Castro.

GINGRICH: My friend, I doubt a human being has ever been born
or will be born who carries more loathing in their heart than I for
the smelly hairy Castro. If I could I would personally go down there and
remove the old wretched Commie from this world with my bare hands.

ROMNEY: If you could? If you could? Why can't you, my friend?

GINGRICH: Well, let's not be preposterous, there are obvious legal
and technical obstacles to--

ROMNEY: Why can't you, my friend?

GINGRICH: Is that a challenge? Are you challenging me?

ROMNEY: Of course it's a challenge. Cuba is right out there. Castro
is right out there, Mr Speaker.

GINGRICH: Well, I believe he's dying and senile somewhere in a
hospital and--

ROMNEY: Oh, you're going to let that stop you? I guess you
must not hate the old Communist as much as you say if his dying
and begin senile in a hospital is going to keep you from finding him
and taking him out with your bare hands. I guess you must love
the old Communist after all if you can suddenly muster such compassion
for him.

GINGRICH: I'll show you how much compassion I have for the hairy
old son of a bitch. Where's a boat! Get me a boat! Where's Calista!
Somebody get me a ***damn boat!"

ROMNEY: Who needs a boat?! You need a boat? I don't need a boat!

Romney began removing his shoes and coat and Gingrich followed
suit. Their staffs tried to stop them but they shook loose and
began trotting awkwardly in their socks and shirtsleeves
across the sand toward the water and Cuba, hollering indecipherable
anti-Castro epithets at each other as they went.

Gingrich dove in just as the water was retreating and he landed
on the sand with a rather graceless bellyflop. The waves were
particularly strong and though Romney dove in nicely and displayed
a steady and stylish stroke, he remained in one spot as the waves kept
knocking him back, his head held jauntily high above the water and his
hair gleaming like a little oil slick in the Florida sun. Gingrich, already
winded, finally made it into the water on his hands and knees and
immediately began floating north as his arms proved too short to
reach the water.

[big] Ann Coulter throws a fit over Gingrich victory.[/big]
On a Sunday morning appearance on “Fox & Friends,” conservative columnist Ann Coulter explained why Romney fell short in the South Carolina GOP presidential primary, blaming the priorities of South Carolina voters for Gingrich’s success.

“Apparently, South Carolinians would rather have the emotional satisfaction of a snotty remark toward the president than to beat Obama in the fall,” Coulter, the author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” said. “We saw it in the debates when Gingrich would say things that didn’t really make sense. That is what you usually associate with Democrats, which I described in my last book, ‘Demonic,’ how mobs behave.”

Some of what Gingrich has said might appear to make sense, she said, but should be analyzed more closely.

“Something that sounds like it makes sense like, ‘Mitt Romney doesn’t have influence over his super PAC — that makes you wonder if he’ll have influence as president,’” she continued. “How many times does Mitt Romney have to say it is illegal for a candidate to have influence on the super PAC. It is not, interestingly, though, for a president to have influence. So it makes no sense if you think about it for all of three seconds, but it sounds like it makes sense. It is just like what you get from liberals most of the time and the cheers and yahoos, and that is what we kept getting from this audience.”

[big] Rick Santorum: Left uses college for "indoctrination"[/big]
Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Wednesday that "the left" uses universities to indoctrinate young people for the purpose of "holding and maintaining power."

After saying "we've lost, unfortunately, our entertainment industry," Santorum told a Naples, Florida, audience that "we've lost our higher education, that was the first to go a long time ago."

"It's no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go to college," said the former Pennsylvania senator. "The indoctrination that occurs in American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America. And it is indoctrination. If it was the other way around, the ACLU would be out there making sure that there wasn't one penny of government dollars going to colleges and universities, right?"

He continued: "If they taught Judeo-Christian principles in those colleges and universities, they would be stripped of every dollar. If they teach radical secular ideology, they get all the government support that they can possibly give them. Because you know 62 percent of children who enter college with a faith conviction leave without it."

Oklahoma GOP lawmaker believes food contains human fetuses

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/01/24/oklahoma-lawmaker-believes-food-contain-human-festuses/

An Oklahoma lawmaker is convinced that some food coming into his state contains portions of human fetuses.

According to the KGMG talk radio, state Sen. Ralph Shortey (R) has filed a bill that bans foods or products using aborted human fetuses.

“There is a potential that there are companies that are using aborted human babies in their research and development of basically enhancing flavor for artificial flavors,” he said.

Shortey said the decision to file was based on his own research. However, he didn’t provide any examples of food companies engaging in the practice.

Unbeknownst to the press, President Obama met this evening with former president George H.W. Bush and his son, former Florida governor Jeb Bush in the Oval Office.

White House officials did not list the meeting on the president's schedule but released a photo through Flickr and Twitter.

According to the date and time stamp on the photo, it was taken shortly after 5 p.m. That's about the time Obama returned to the White House from a fundraiser at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

White House officials did not immediately respond to questions about the subject of the meeting and its exclusion from Obama's public schedule.
