Why does the GOP respond to everything by moving further right?

If they win, even by a tiny margin, they see it as an overwhelming MANDATE to: Mover further right.

If they lose, they think it was because they "Betrayed their conservative principles" and decide to: Move further right.

There seems to be an ideological positive feedback loop that makes them more insulated from reality and more extreme with every election cycle. It's hard to imagine what policies these nut cases will be taking by 2020, but if recent history is an example, they will consider "Conservative ideas" that they endorse today as "Marxist" by then.

The GOP is a party of racist, sexist, fascists that would love to lord over a police state where The People have very limited rights, there is no centralized government and minorities live by different standards then they do.

You seem like a charming person personally, but you're out of touch with heartland America.

Nixon is frequently referred to as "the last liberal president." And where are the democrats in that equation? Tampering with Social Security and Medicare were long thought to be the "third rail of politics," but now we have democrats, including Obama, openly talking about negotiating changes to Social Security and Medicare. And Obama has taken the first steps in defunding Social Security through these stupid payroll tax cuts and nary a voice of dissent.
