Indiana Governor Daniels ready to sign right-to-work bill

Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels said on Monday he is ready this week to sign legislation to make Indiana the first state in a decade to enact a right-to-work law.

The state Senate is expected to take the final vote on Wednesday on the bill that prohibits labor contracts that require workers to pay union representation fees. The House approved the proposal last week, and Republicans on the Senate's labor committee voted 6-1 to advance it Monday.

The Senate committee's three Democrats boycotted the meeting in protest, saying there was no justification for rushing the bill through and objecting to a decision by committee Chairman Phil Boots, R-Crawfordsville, to not consider any changes to the proposal on Monday.

Republican Sen. Brent Waltz of Greenwood, who was among nine Republican senators to vote against the bill last week, was the single "no" vote in the committee on Monday. Waltz said believes the proposal could cost the state jobs and won't raise wages for Indiana workers, but that he expects it will clear the Senate for final approval.

Perhaps this bill will result in a backlash and cause Indiana to turn deep blue for the foreseeable future?

I think yes.

"Right to work" laws, once exclusive to Southern states, is creeping North thanks to ignorant Tea Party Republicans who either fall into the nonsense that they create good jobs, or from pure spite that gives perverse satisfaction that the voter is taking a union worker "down a peg".

What Indiana is doing is taking living wages in that state back 30 years. Soon wages across the board will fall like dominos as union jobs become extinct and WalMart pay without benefits becomes the new standard.

Why do Republicans hate the hourly worker? I call those Republicans who punch a time clock for $30,000 a year and vote like Steve Forbes "Barstool Republicans". I assume they're stupid enough to think they're going to win the lottery in the near future.
