Paterson man accused of impregnating daughter equated himself to a 'prophet,' ex-wife testifies

A former Paterson woman told jurors on Tuesday she couldn’t believe her 12-year-old daughter was pregnant — until she went to her husband.

“He said, ‘She could be pregnant from me,’” Beverly Ayinde testified in state Superior Court. “My heart started racing.”

Aswad Ayinde, 54, formerly Eric Mc Gill of Paterson, is accused of deliberately impregnating his underage daughter to create his own so-called “blueblood” race. Beverly Ayinde described how her ex-husband controlled every aspect of their lives — their minds, souls, and bodies — from the 1980s to 2006, when the family finally went to authorities.

“He equaled himself to being a prophet,” she told jurors in Judge Raymond A. Reddin’s courtroom in Paterson. “As time went on, he was god-like. I had to call him, ‘my god.’ He equated himself to Jesus Christ … He would sit us all down and lecture us about his greatness and his power … At another point, he equated himself to Prince and Michael Jackson.”

Ayinde, whose varied professional background includes the music business, directed the video for The Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly,” which won an MTV Video Music Award in 1996 for best R&B video.

Beverley Ayinde acknowledged that she should have seen her daughter’s pregnancy coming. Four years earlier, she said, Aswad informed her that spirits told him to perform oral sex on their daughter, then 8. “I was shocked. I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ He tried to present it in this very godly, spiritual way,” she testifified -
