Dr. DemoTex is on a gig in SoCal that involves the FAA. They tell her that sequester cuts will not hit unionized controllers until April 1.
That is all .. Carry on.

(22,144 posts)administration. They can cut things other than controllers. They can also shift controllers around to keep larger facilities fully staffed. KLAX needs controllers, KHHR not so much.
The delays are due to legally required notices. All Fed furloughs are similarly effected.

(787 posts)Our union has been saying that our cuts wouldn't take effect until the pay period that begins April 7. To what extent, we don't know yet. We do know that we will be forced to take one and as many as two furlough days per pay period, with NO expectation of back pay for the days missed. There is also talk that to meet staffing, all annual leave will be cancelled for the rest of the year. I think they have also suspended matching contributions to our retirement account. Next to the DoD, I think we are getting hit the hardest. If I may take a moment to say thank you to our Republican leadership. Said no rational person ever.

(4,276 posts)but I'm not sure if that's all government unionized departments.
FAA sequester options include cutting overtime pay...reducing hours at smaller facilities. Delays will certainly result if not possible cancellation of flights.
Contracted workers will experience furloughs each pay period and those could start as soon as next week.
