Lawrence show, Ezra discussion w voting rights expert:

Justice Sotomayor raised numbers, against Shelby County, reciting the number of their violatory actions, demonstrating its still necessary and useful.

Roberts 'parallel' referred, incorrectly. to 2d generation disparities, as to intention of the law. (massachusetts/mississippi)

Kenedy re: section 2 suits, do they provide protections? Not really, cumbersome and not timely.

My thoughts:

Thoughtful justices (including Kennedy, imo) won't go for scalia's b.s.

I suspect serious questions from many on the Court about scalia's suggestion that last/recent Congressional vote/review of the Act isn't worth its apparent meaning, as to throw it out for this reason would wreak serious havoc on the Court's jurisprudence.

I needed that.

Feeling pretty discouraged tonight, after Rachel and Ezra (but for this segment) vis a vis wtf's happening to our country. Good thing I'm heading for vacation, as probably won't spend as much time as usual on the idiocy.

voting rights and women's reproductive rights.

You'd think we would have came further than this by now!

It really does look like the republicans mean it when they say they want to take the 'country back' - - to the 50s 60s and 70s.

It seems like I haven't seen him in weeks, and Ezra Klein doesn't say that he's filling in for him, at least not when I'm watching.
