The Weather Channel, gotta love it...
Not only have they become artsy-fartsy by now naming winter storms like hurricanes, they have become unbelievably unreliable about telling you about the weather in your area.
I ws feeling a little cooler than I though should be the case just a few moments ago and the heat keeps kicking on, it was predicted earlier by a different source, that it would get to about -2F tonight. I looked at TWC and it said it was +10F. I thought that was unusual given that when I stepped outside to look at the stars the snow was really loud and it felt cold. When I looked at my thermometer on the wall... I wasn't surprised about why the heat was coming on so much and my feet felt a little less warm because it's actually -22F right now!
Wow, thanks The Weather Channel!! I'm sure naming the storms is more important than actually providing vital the service of actually letting people know what the temperature is outside when it poses a life/death set of conditions. Wow, just wow.

with Tee Vee so I actually made the mistake of looking it up on their website. I usually go to the bookmarked one that I use for local temp, Accuweather, which has number of features i like. They actually have the same reading as my old fashioned analog style thermometer out on the porch.
But now that you mention it, I recall being at a friend's home the other day and they put TWC on, it's one of seven channels that you can get on basic cable in these parts, and you have to wait a very long time for the local doppler and DOS looking text at the bottom of the screen to tell you what it was like half an hour ago. And I think I saw one of those best of the weather-athons last summer while at the same house hoping to catch a glimpse of the massive thunderstorm we were trying to keep safe from. It's easier to just look outside or go outside than to rely on that alleged "source" for weather info.
Think I'll stick with my usual sources, it's safer!
I bring it up at work when I get there and leave it up all day, which we really are not supposed to do visiting the internet and all, but I figure what the devil can they say about the National Weather Service in a business that can be drastically affected by the weather. 
We had rain change to snow, to slush then end followed by some very strong winds this afternoon. An interesting day.....
Actually, since I live in a remote and volatile weather high frequency place, I have several sources too. I use the NOAA aviation weather site as it will give you satellite visuals of large chunks f the planet all at once... not just the US and five miles off shore; then there's Accuweather that has the best immediate temps without too much adspace; and then there's weatherUnderground that has interesting features with localized wind speeds (important if you live near the top of the continental divide like I do) and then there's another location on that site that has just the US but you can get the temp range for the continent AND the Jet Stream visual. There's also a site out of Canada that is a portal for everything starting with solar activity, a lot about that including visuals for solar wind and magnetic storms then earthquakes and global conditions including temps, solar radiation, and jet stream. I can't imagine not being as fully aware as possible about the weather throughout the day.
When I went to TWC online to check the temps last night, I don't know WHAT the hell I was thinking... um, it was late and I was tired. But I was just amazed that what tiny amount of info the offer wasn't even CLOSE to being anywhere near correct or accurate. The Fuxnooz version of the weather, I guess.
