(10,960 posts)a while back I posted a question about whether Huntman's father was financing his candidacy and was assured that pere Huntsman had made only minor or modest contributions.
$1.88 million may be a drop in the bucket in Mittsville in nominal terms, but 70% is 70%. And that money was all for New Hampshire.
If the Huntsman family had suceeded in buying New Hampshire (instead of being outbid by Romney in the auction) would that have been the end of the (unlimited) donations?
It was a stunt candidacy put together by a billionaire and his rich buddies and was never taken seriously by anyone except hapless stooges on TV who were eager to swallow the lie that Huntsman was the centrist messiah Broder has been looking for for all these years.
Fake candidacy. No actual popular support. Unilatterally funded by people to whom a presidential campaign is a relatively cheap form of entertainment.

(12,504 posts)I'd agree in some sense that this was a fake candidacy. Not so much in the sense you mean, but in that they all knew Huntsman would never get the final nod from the GOP. IT was still strategically designed to get noticed. A relative unknown, trying to get his name 'out there'. This was pr, advertising and an earily investment for 2016. While daddy Hunstsman may have put some big bucks out 2012, it was designed as seed money and an investment for future donors 2016.
When Romeny gets his butt handed to him in the November elections, Huntsman, will become the viable candidate that the Right will hope, can beat a Democratic nominee. THIS, is what I firmly believe.
