Erie County has its highest-ever recorded number of unsheltered homeless people, according to new data released Monday by the Department of Human Services.
The county's unsheltered homeless population -- those who sleep in tents or on the streets instead of staying overnight in shelters -- has skyrocketed this year, nearly quadrupling the total in 2012.
"It's staggering," said Mark Alexa, a housing specialist with the department.
On Jan. 25, during the county's annual point-in-time survey that counts area homeless, 160 unsheltered homeless people were recorded.

(1,362 posts)It's called predatory capitalism. There are 24 empty homes for every homeless person in America and yet we're told there's a housing shortage by the 1%ers, LMFAO.

young people who were born under reagan have never known an america that didn't have rampant homelessness. they think of it as normal and unavoidable. if you grew up before that you can remember a time when things were much different.
