George H.W. Bush Book Recalls Frustration At Son's Critics: I'm 'An Angry Old Man Hurting For My Son

George H W Bush Book

Former President George H. W. Bush offers intimate observations about low points of his son's presidency in his latest book, set to be released Tuesday.

CNN received an advanced copy of All the Best, George Bush; My Life in Letters and Other Writings, and reports that the elder Bush had a pained reaction to the nation's criticism of his son's performance as 43rd president.

"My heart went out to him" after Hurricane Katrina, Bush, 88, writes of his son, former President George W. Bush. "Here is a guy who cares deeply. Who wants every possible resource of the federal government brought in to bear to help people, yet he is being roundly accused of not giving a damn ... the critics do not know what is in 43's heart, how deeply he feels about the hurt, the anguish, the losses affecting so many people, most of them poor."

The younger Bush was stung by considerable backlash for slow execution of recovery efforts in Louisiana after Katrina. The resentment came to a memorable head in September 2005, when entertainer Kanye West publicly blasted Bush during a nationally broadcast relief telethon, claiming he didn't "care about black people."

Unlike the Kennedy family. This "man" makes me sick. I can't say how I would love to see him die.

Karma is a ..well you know.. He stole 2 elections, ruined our economy and started 2 wars.. his reputation is well-deserved.

One of the enablers even became a Federal Judge! And the others, they got to hang out in the White House situation room for most of the last 32 years. And Pruneface Ronny managed to destroy much of the New Deal and the Great Society.

Karma is going to be interesting.

IIRC, wasn't Bush 43 responsible for taking more vacation time than any other President in recent history? Trust me, the man was not hurting that bad.

The Spoils of War Coverage
By FRANK RICH
Published: April 13, 2003

...

The president's mother told Diane Sawyer she would watch ''none'' of TV's war coverage because ''90 percent'' of it would be speculative. Mrs. Bush continued: ''Why should we hear about body bags and deaths and how many, what day it's gonna happen? . . . It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?''

"She knows how to hate."

Lou Dubose, from The Texas Observer

Screaming for Vengeance

And to think some wonder where her son got his compassion for the less-fortunate. Obviously, from both sides of the family.

Most importantly: Thank you for the kind reminder, xocet. "Commas" we are to them.

All Bush Sr. really cared about was his name and legacy. Jr. trashed all that, and so now he's whining about it as he gazes into the abyss. Seems fitting enough as a fate for a shallow man whose entire life was built upon duplicity, lies and cunning.

The dude took a tour of photo opts while people were dying in Katrina. He was told it was going to be bad and did nothing. All of his sons policies made the majority of Americans lives fucking worse. So fuck them both.

should bow his head in shame that he had the misfortune to sire that pos and now he is trying to make money off a book in which he defends the oaf. And we might endure the audacious ambitions of another bushwacker striving to become POTUS! Are we on the road to coronations instead of elections via the Bush royal lineage? Jeb Bush will endeavor to position himself as the "good brother". He is a bush in sheep's clothing. God help us all. Thanks, I feel a little better now!
