What is your worst nightmare in regards to our government?

Are you afraid they will take our guns?

Are you afraid we will go bankrupt?

Are you afraid the Tea Party will take over government and finish the job they have already started?

Are you afraid the Democrats will forget what they were sent to Washington for and will join forces with the Tea Party Republicans to tear down the social safety net that has been built since FDR's New Deal?

What is your worst nightmare about our government?

i share your concern for the regular folks to whom cuts in government spending for safety net and social programs will lead to more people being insolvent, more people without health care, more children without adequate food and shelter.

nice to finally agree on something after all these years!

There are no countries, only corporations and they don't need us anymore. There are a billion Chinese and Indians to take our place as consumers. That's why they won't rebuild the infrastructure here, it's why they're letting the cities crumble, it's why we are going from first world to third world with such alacrity. They're in the final process of leeching whatever wealth remains (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the post office) before they abandon us entirely. They don't need us anymore and they will cast us off like a vagabond might discard a bit of rag he has wiped his ass with.

The party is over, it's been over since 1981 and had been coming since the 60's when they murdered all the progressive leaders.

I seem to half-expect the TeaBag wing of Republicanism, or whatever rises to replace it, to somehow gain full control. After which the implicit RW idea that there are too many people and those who are "unfit" should die, ASAP, will be made explicit. Leading to my ultimate demise in a camp somewhere, because I'm certainly not anything like their ideal kind of person. Kick me and I break down, rather than getting stronger and competing for dominance. People who break will be destroyed.

That's what scares me when I can't sleep at night and those irrational paranoid pseudo-dreams drift through consciousness. Perhaps I should be more worried by the youtube video I saw yesterday. A congressman read a proposed national security bill in which every third word was redacted. "In the case that...classified... should... classified... in the inner cities, exceeding our worst nightmares, classified... classified... classified. Then the video went on to suggest that the redacted speech pertained to the "zombie virus" cannibal events of 2012. Zombies are real! It's happening, folks! Gah! And the government... they know! Sob. I'm spreading the Jell-O, all over the kitchen floor, now!

Yes, I do now realize that I've had way too much coffee today, and that I should avoid further posts until I've regained full cognitive functionality. Umm.

the president unilaterally decides what is legal, umm never mind

the US invades a mid-east country for no good reason, hang on...

The country quite literally worships stupid...just a second, uh

The FBI monitors all private electronic communication...uhh, one moment

Due process is subverted to the point of being non-existent

the president refers to the Bill of Rights as "just a piece of paper"

Top government officials think "1984" & "Atlas Shrugged" are constitutional documents.

Law enforcement is militarized AND for-profit

Frankly I can't think of a nightmare that is much worse than reality....

Government will "go broke", or will operate "bare bones". Taxes will be raised for the purpose of attacking other countries. We will have endless wars. Unemployment will be sky high. Some sort of "slavery" or indentured servitude will exist again.

distract the people while some larger agenda is pursued. That this deception and manipulation has been going on for decades. That things are far worse than we suspect, in cold, hard reality. That the government, in this environment it may well have created, seeks to exponentially increase it's authority over every aspect of our lives. Sure, taking guns helps with that.

In so many ways, 1984 is our new truth... Just read the Hunger Games Trilogy and there's many parallells there as well, IMO

It doesn't matter anymore if someone is D or R...I am seeing the same stuff from all sides of those in power. The Illusion is that we have a choice at all. While I love our Pres's eloquence and many of the positive changes he has made...they do not overshadow the fact that he is just as corporate-sponsored as everyone in DC... his last cabinet appts in Energy and Commerce have proven that...then add the new drone, detention and other policies...and I am really convinced our freedoms are really all illusion.

the sequester is kabuki theater made up to keep us at odds and intrenched in the "who's to blame" game...while the money gets funneled to the corporate and wall st interests...and we are left begging for bread on the streets.

Not fun thoughts...but they seem to cross my mind every day as of late...

the likes we have seen since 2009 but especially since 2011 that results in nothing getting done while important problems aren't dealt with (i.e. climate change, infrastructure, jobs). I just want our national government to go back to how it was when Republicans could compromise with Democrats for the good of the country, cabinet and judicial nominees and most legislation was given a legitimate "up-or-down" vote, we weren't dealing with perpetual manufactured budget crises, when most Republicans and Democrats (even if grudgingly) respected the notion that, no matter who is in charge in the WH, government needs to still function.

I'm deathly afraid of the idea. All that talk about the Republicans wanting to seceed, the corporations talking about their own tax free, low wage Utopia. It's all talk for now. But think... just think about what would happen if they were to act on it.

I think if some idiot Tea bagger Republican managed to pass some legislation reducing, cutting benefits or closing down Veteran Hospitals, making Veterans fending for themselves. Some who receive full disability rely on those payments to live on, food, housing, etc. If some greedy Republican thought they could pass some bill reducing this, it would drive many more out into the streets.. more to maybe suicide.

They served their country, and now the country is helping them.. Republicans would find a way to do this, given the opportunity. We must be forever vigilant regarding this kind of behavior.
