Iran Entitled To Peaceful Nuclear Energy - Russia
Speaking during Wednesday’s session of the Security Council focusing Tehran’s nuclear dossier, Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin pledged every effort on Moscow’s part to achieve progress in resolving the longstanding dispute over the Iranian nuclear program.
He also held out hope that the upcoming round of nuclear talks between Iran and the Big Six would prove productive in closer aligning the sides’ positions on the contentious issue.
Vitaly Churkin emphasized that Russia saw no alternative to a diplomatic solution of the problem.
Russia believes that the sanctions imposed by several powers on Iran are counterproductive.
Speaking at a session of the UN Security Council in New York on Wednesday, Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin also pointed out that many of these sanctions are exterritorial, which represents a gross violation of international law.
