(12,272 posts)They are very powerful and depending, give a sense of serenity, peace, introspection and/or unity.

(3,709 posts)Very hard decision but I kept being drawn to 'Captured'...I have a thing for wrought iron and just love the graphic feel of the photo.
That said, there is not a bad photograph among these...the snow scenes, the snow doggie, love the composition of the bird bath photo...so hard to decide.
Great work, everyone...all winners.

(131 posts)I do not post often, I just come to read more often than not, but I had to say congratulations to all the photographers that took all of these beautiful pictures. I love each and every one, but my favorites are all the snowy winter scenes...they are stunningly beautiful, and remind me of the mountainous areas where I grew up in West Virginia! Thanks to all the people who took the time to send in these photos; too bad each and everyone cannot come in first place because to me all of them are winners!

(22,541 posts)I love the focus of it. And the haziness of the background. The contrast between the two. And the contrast in textures, the delicacy of the snow caught in the metal. This was my first place choice from the beginning.
There was another I liked for the color and circumstance that didn't make the finals. The one with bikes lying in the snow, with a red wooden warehouse in the background. The color contrast was gorgeous, as was the contrast in what the bikes brought to your imagination with what all that snow makes you think of. It's a pretty common scene in Colorado, where you can experience several seasons in a day. That photo was my second choice to win.
Inspiring entries in a great contest.
Thanx CC.

(27,404 posts)...as they come down the home stretch.
Personally, I like the colors suspended in the ice of "Birdbath", but the competition is fierce in this one. From the bleak desolation depicted in "Copse" to the frozen wonder of "Reflections", these are some of the most beautiful representations of the season I can imagine.
Spending a long lifetime in NE Ohio, I consider myself something of an expert on what winter looks like. Well done DU!

(53,003 posts)I'm voting for one I didn't select in the first round. I'm not sure if the order of the photos influences my decision or if it's because the one I voted for in that round isn't there now.
