(24,692 posts)Mixed economies can do just fine for investors but, as in the case of Sweden, distribute the financial gains more fairly in the society. Sweden has the most equitable distribution of income in the world even though their stock market does just fine.

All of this nuance would confuse a tea partier who likes his 'facts' in short, simple sound bites. The real world is always more complicated than the 'sound bite' version.
Anyone who thinks the US is a 'socialist' country isn't using his head for anything other than a place to put his cowboy hat.

(75,480 posts)She was a staunch boot strap Republican. Yet, her husband was a fireman (govt. socialist job) and the dialysis clinic she worked at was mostly financed with Medicare and Medicaid money because most private insurance as well as Medicare Advantage health plans did not cover end stage renal disease. She and her husband would not have jobs if it weren't for the government socialism in our system.

(153 posts)...couldn't describe, let alone spell socialist, even if one bit them on their candy asses, whilst quoting Marxist economic philosophy, and logic. They're the type that takes stupid to levels previously unknown to Us. As a matter of course, this lop of fetid cheese is, has been for two centuries plus, and will continue practicing forms of "that word". Amurikans just cannot handle the truth, especially the basics. Bold bravado manifesting as blatant prevarication is their "truth", and they're just so very proud of it all, the scum.
