I think we're either at or close to the tipping point re marriage equality

Yesterday CO passed civil unions into law an MN House and Senate committees passed marriage equality bills. Governor Dayton says he'll sign it if it's passed.

Nine states have legalized same sex marriage. So has Washington D.C. HI, NJ and CO recognize civil unions. Several states recognize civil unions and same sex marriages performed in other states.

If one marks the beginning of the battle for marriage equality from the 1993 case Baehr v Lewin, an amazing shift has taken place in a relatively short period of time. Civil Unions became the law in Vermont in 2000, granting all the state rights and responsibilities of marriage. In 2004 the marriage equality law in MA came into effect.

The majority of Americans now support marriage equality. No matter what the result of the SC case challenging DOMA, more states will institute marriage equality.

The battle isn't over, but we've come a long way. After many setbacks, we are winning.
