besides me? I've become addicted to watching this trial (one reason I haven't been on DU much lately). Arias is an extremely shrewd and dangerous criminal, imho. I don't believe in the dp, but I sure hopes she gets life without parole.

(36,974 posts)I've been watching for about two weeks.
I've even skipped watching MSNBC so that I don't miss any of the questioning, but I do turn back over to MSNBC to watch Ed, Rachel, Lawrence - then I watch all the evening trial summary shows (Jane, Nancy, Drew) when they repeat later in the night.

(36,926 posts)Hubby even asked if I wanted to go out to dinner tonight, and I said no can do. Gotta watch the HLN follow-up shows.
So, what do you think about Martinez?

(3,251 posts)Watch ONLY the livestream from the Arizona Republic, and then you don't get the twisted garbage HLN has been pushing on this case from Day One.
That is because Travis's friends didn't know Travis or Jodi and their relationship, and so they have pushed a lot things that just aren't true.

(21,859 posts)can't ever give a simple yes or no answer. I don't know how Juan Martinez keeps his cool. She drives me crazy to listen to. the judge is sustaining a lot of his questions today too it seems.

(26,259 posts)If I was the prosecutor, I'd request a visit to the apartment, or at least do a reconstruction of that closet, and ask her to re-enact climbing on those shelves, without displacing any clothes or flipping the shelves.
She has to be the most irritating person I've ever seen testifying in any case, and I'm a total Court TV addict.

(26,259 posts)I've seen them do similar things in other cases. It would take two seconds to blow her story, of getting the gun, out of the water.
Of course, the defense would object, strenuously.

(3,251 posts)Arias is telling the truth here, and Juan Martinez, the prosecutor, is hopelessly overmatched.
He's desperately trying to prove premeditation and motive, and he can't do it.
He overcharged this case. It should have been second-degree murder, but Martinez was too stubborn to accept the defense's plea deal.

(26,259 posts)If lies were hair, she'd be a Wookie. The deflecting, the over explaining, the equivocating - AGHHHHH!! Talking to this woman is like trying to swat a fruit fly. The second you think you've finally got her pinned down - off she goes in a whole other direction.

(73,536 posts)Her case will be used in textbooks for decades to come, as she is a classic sociopath (or psychopath, if one prefers that term). And I say that not because of the murder that she planned and commited -- although save that, she would be just another insignificant cultural waste by-product -- but because of her total lack of remorse, and her inability to tell the truth twice in a row.
My former co-workers and I discuss the case frequently. They have to watch the HLN coverage after getting home from work, while I have the advantage of being retired.
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)Gotta love the ability to wallow in these bizarre cases! And yes I agree that she is a complete sociopath. Every time she opens her mouth that premise is reinforced for me.

(73,536 posts)that I've actually scheduled some of my "grass roots" work around this trial.
I should add that I find court cases fascinating. I have watched several of Tru TV cases (this one started on it, then was wshifted to HLN). I've watched a few in courts in my region. And I've got plenty of books on interesting cases.
I've also participated in a fair number of cases, such as working with the defense effort for friend Rubin .... a twenty-year effort.

(36,926 posts)Until recently I loved true crime books, especially those written by Ann Rule. After my cancer dx I have been much more into spirituality. I am early stage, but just getting that dx is a wake-up call.

(12,665 posts)I've been listening every day at work on my ipad. I will say, this is the first trial I have watched that the jury is allowed to ask questions. BY the questions they have ask, I think it is very very clear that they do not believe a single word she is saying.
Her defense didn't have much to work with to begin with and I definitely think they have leftd her on the stand way to damn long.
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)The jurors' questions are very revealing. I wish every state allowed jurors to question defendants.
Sissyk
(12,665 posts)three states allow jury questions, one being Arizona.
She should have quit when they ask the question "With all the lies you have told about this crime, why do you expect us to believe you now?" I actually went WOW, out loud. lol
And Martinez has pointed out so many lies and inconsistencies in just the different stories from the witness stand, not even counting all the previous lies.
Unfortunately, if there is one person in this thread that believes Jodi, there may be one on the jury. I hope not and that she gets life. IMO, she went there with the plans of killing Travis and it was brutal. I don't even want to imagine the pain he went through.
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)Maybe s/he doesn't want to reveal her/himself. More juror questions may be coming tomorrow. Stay tuned!

(6,539 posts)Once she went on the stand, she was in it for the duration - direct, cross, redirect, jury questions, redirect, recross.
The defense did spend a lot of time on her early years and we'll see if they had a good reason for that. There's more defense to come.
I think jury questioning is a terrible idea. What a poorly managed mess by the judge.
I do think she's guilty but if I was on the jury and it was going to be death penalty, I'd hang the jury.
Sissyk
(12,665 posts)are to try to help prove the abuse defense. She's saying it started in early childhood, went through several boyfriends, then to Travis. Supposedly, that's why she has "fog" when he "beat" her and when she slaughtered him.
Yeah, I don't think it is going to work either. I'm interested in seeing what the experts have to say, though.
I hope she's found guilty of first degree murder. It was horrifying.

(36,926 posts)He's explaining how stress affects memory. But, imho, as a fellow psychologist, his hypothesis is wrong. Jodi wasn't stressed when she slashed Travis. She was having the time of her life. I shudder to think about the stress her poor victim was going through.

(5,704 posts)To me, she is looking for attention and she seems fake! No emotion whatsoever about killing her boyfriend. She too might get off like that other girl and her baby! Kinda sad no matter how you look at it. Tired of the BF, let him go, if he tired of you, accept it. Baby in your way and parents want the baby, let them take the baby, don't kill the baby! I cannot recall her name right now! Most normal people treat their pets much better, these folks are losers!
