Ed Show moving from 8pm weekdays to 5-7pm weekends

Last Ed Show is tomorrow, radio continues M-F

He made a compelling case as to why he approves this change, basically that he is here for the workers and weekends are when he can speak to them.

Mixed emotions, but I give him credit - he said this will allow him to work in his wheelhouse of workers issues.

No link - he just announced it at the end of his show tonight.

they've been grooming him for months...

But Ed is a rating giant. This might hurt the evening lineup.

On the other hand,
we have blasted MSNBC for their weekend wasteland
(LOck UP...)

Putting Ed on Sat. and Sun. evenings is good: something to look forward to
when you aren't turned on to the various sports/Lawrence Welk show...

a lot of times on Friday but he just doesn't grab my attention as a host.

I love the work that Soledad O'Brien has done on CNN. Martin Bashir would be another great choice. I hate not being able to watch his show during the day (maybe MSNBC could put his show out as a podcast?). I also love the energy of Chris Hayes.

SE Cupp would be total barf city.

we'll have to worry about Sarah Elizabeth hosting any shows on MSNBC; she is just there basically as a token Republican punching bag for the liberal hosts.

He made the announcement on the move at the end - by saying "I want this because this is too time intensive on a daily basis given my radio show (my first love)" - paraphrased. He didn't say anything about his replacement or the lineup effective Monday night.

I'd say he gets it!

Apparently, it is you that doesn't. Just because Ed doesn't speak to YOU doesn't mean he doesn't speak to Average Joe Sixpack...whom you might understand is a demographic that we need to cultivate on the Left. Ed speaks about labor....do you think there is anyone who understands the guy on the assembly line better than Ed? Oh and that guy....IS watching TV at 8pm!

someone owns a lodge and guns doesn't mean that they know the difference between a clip and a magazine, and doesn't mean that they don't look like an idiot when they use the words interchangeably on the air. They look like one of "them librul haters of 'Merican freedom" that the right gets so worked up about.

I'm all for making guns harder to get, but when the messenger looks like he doesn't understand the issue, it weakens the argument.

Also, the graphics on his show are so full of typos and grammatical mistakes that it's disheartening. I know that's not his fault, but it looks bad. And the twitter feed that scrolls along the bottom? Most of those people seem only semi-literate.

Finally, he bumbles up reading the script so frequently that I question why they've kept him on the air as long as they have.

magnificent job of covering gritty topics and becoming an on-screen personality.

If he requested a cut-backo, why would he keep the radio show rather than the daily tv show where he is bound to have a bigger impact.

If he wanted more time for family life, a seven day commitment is not an improvement from a 5 day one.

No, as someone else mentioned, I think this has to do with him going after O on his weaseling on the "grand bargain"--and other things that are not approved.

It is a way to cut off progressive voices that won't kowtow to the corporate ptb.

Giving Hayes a prime time slot and Kornacki the weekend morning show backs it up. They should be focusing more on substance rather than on youth. But oh well.

Cable News on the weekend is a graveyard. What they should do is get rid of the Hardball repeat at 7pm. Why do they even do that? And for that matter get rid of The Cycle and Martin Bashir. Both those shows stink and offer nothing of substance. Ed is a working class guy. He didn't just mindlessly drone on about "the middle class" like so many of these blowhards on TV like to do. He actually talked about issues that affected the vast majority of us working stiffs. I wish him success, but i think this is a precursor to the end. MSNBC has gone down quite a bit since they got rid of Olbermann and Shuster. Things just haven't been the same.
