I'm an atheist and I despise this church. But, I know enough to know the guy passed over a palace in buenos Aries that came with the job and took a small apartment. He also commuted on the bus. And his name symbolized turning ones back on wealth. It may all be a front, but just in case, try to criticize accurately.

I thought that was the one interesting aspect of the whole Pope changeover.

We shall see how this guy deals with being in this position of enormous wealth.

Since we have to see him on TV, I was hoping for someone a little better looking than Ratzinger. This guy is no visual treat, either. He'd be a lot better if he'd get some interesting glasses instead of wearing those lenses that don't manage to turn back to normal after being in the sun.

All the robes, sending up smoke signals, etc.

The problem with organized religion is they say they want to do good things to help people. They take in donations that are then spent constructing over the top buildings, which then cost a lot to maintain.

As a result, much of the money never makes it to those who need help the most.

works of art are disgusting. There were several from S. America and I remember thinking at the time why doesn't the church sell a couple of those painting, forgo gilding some of those gold plated frames and domes (that's what they were doing in one of the churches we were visiting.) and send the money back to the poor people who need food and clothes. I was in a moral funk whenever I visited churches in Rome because of the distortion of Christ's message.

I mean really, does the media do this for other religions? They're a group of pedophile-shielders trying to impose their odd religious beliefs on the rest of the country, why does anyone give an X who their leader is.

This is like living in RI, where every time Tobin blathers away it takes over the front page of the state newspaper.
