Federal Government Reports Marijuana Effective in Combating Certain Cancers Reports ADSI

<snip>
"In a recent report, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the Federal government's National Institutes of Health (NIH), stated that marijuana "inhibited the survival of both estrogen receptor–positive and estrogen receptor–negative breast cancer cell lines." The same report showed marijuana slows or stops the growth of certain lung cancer cells and suggested that marijuana may provide "risk reduction and treatment of colorectal cancer."
<snip>

<snip>
"Despite the Federal government sanctioned and authorized NCI report, Pappas said Congress and the Obama Administration have continued to thwart marijuana research. In an announced effort to displace state medical marijuana laws, the Office of National Drug Control Policy described "medical" marijuana as a "myth" fueling "troubling misconceptions" in documents found on its website. The Federal government appears to be focused on creating more chemical drugs, many of which are the subject of various attorney television commercials seeking out those adversely impacted by those drugs. Pappas said both the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Office of National Drug Control Policy continue to assert marijuana lacks any medicinal value despite the research showing cannabis reduces certain cancer risks and inhibits the growth of tumor cells. He also commented that the Federal government's anti-marijuana position contributes to and encourages prejudice and public misconception about the legitimate use of medical cannabis as treatment for seriously ill patients."
<snip>

Why can't these government agencies get on the same page? WTF is wrong with Obama & Holder & the rest of the drug warriors? Could it possibly be they are paid off by the big pharma lobbyists?

This is so fucking absurd! Enough is enough! We need medicinal & recreational cannabis and we need hemp.

bullshit anymore, the only people hanging on are the ones with a vested interest in the gravy train... people just don't fucking buy it. Look at up and coming Democrats like Gavin Newsom; he's willing to say publicly what a lot of people have known for years.

It certainly isn't the political 3rd rail that it once was. Most everyone knows that the reefer madness crap is BS. I think most know that the medicinal qualities are valid. There is far too much anecdotal evidence to be ignored.

Obama is being so cowardly on this, and he was a stoner himself. WTF?! Why be so regressive?

he gets pressure from the drug warriors, like Holder and probably Biden.

But I think he's been freed up by the election. I think some of the noises he's made since then have been mildly encouraging. They haven't responded, yet, to WA and CO because they don't know how.

The fact that it can be grown anywhere and deliver a buzz - should be proof enough that it has some medicinal value.

It is the buzz that makes it a competitor for two non-pharmaceutical drugs. Alcohol and tobacco. How many people could quit smoking if pot was legal? How many people would forego a trip to the liquor store on Super Bowl Sunday? There are a lot of other interests at stake besides big pharma.

Forget the medicinal benefits; I believe the government is restricting our right to garden. By doing so they are preventing people from being more self-sufficient. That issue should be in the forefront. The federal government is running around telling people what crops they are not allowed to grow. That's the crazy thing about this.

year old man with lung cancer today. He smoked for 70 years and said he won't take regular cancer treatment. He wanted to know if it would help with the pain. He must be getting pretty bad if the pain is bothering him. It won't stop the pain but it will help him cope with it, he will eventually need opium. He isn't trying to save his life, just make his death more comfortable.
