Heroes: Two drowned after jumping into icy, raging river to rescue 6 year old. Child safe.

Emergency crews were searching Friday for a man and woman who jumped into the icy waters of the Big Sioux River in South Dakota to try to save a six-year-old child, before being swept off by the raging current themselves.

The boy is safe, but Sioux Falls authorities said on Friday morning that the effort to find the two adults is now considered a recovery and no longer a rescue mission.

The two jumped into the river near Sioux Falls around 6 p.m. local time on Thursday after the young boy fell in, according to local NBC affiliate KDLT.

the word hero is overused, but these two people are heroes.

To me if you stop the stroller from rolling into traffic without putting yourself at risk, you are a samaritan, a neighbor, a human.
If you run out into traffic without thinking to save the stroller, you are a hero but a circumstantial one.

But if you run out into the traffic after realizing the danger to your own life, then you are a true hero. You knowingly put your life at risk for another.

These people had to have realized the danger. They are true heroes, I agree
