This wonderful man saw 2 large dogs struggling in a freezing river and he jumped in nd it was no easy task.

The male pit bull was the first to crash through the ice and the first Garrison was able to latch onto.
The white one started to swim away from me, and I had to swim after him and grab him, Garrison said.
Garrison managed to hoist both dogs onto a thicker ice sheath. Another person from Castaways brought out a ladder and extended it to the sheath Garrison and the dogs sat upon, which Garrison estimated was 10 to 12 feet from the bank.
One by one, Garrison carried the dogs from the river to the shore. I sort of scooted myself on the ladder, he said.

Their little doggie faces are just precious.

(5,649 posts)I would hope someone would do the same for our two dogs. They don't get out anymore, but when we first moved in, they were little escape artists. Once we replaced the fence, there were no more escapes... but doesn't mean that it couldn't happen.

This is an ironic reminder of what the BSA should be all about.

(1,044 posts)I'm not sure if he was or not. If he wasn't, I commend him for making the effort. If he was, his priorities are seriously out of whack. And yes, I have two cats, I've owned dogs, and loved them all. But I wouldn't want any person to risk themselves to save them. They are animals, after all.

(9,527 posts)There are those who feel that their pets are worth the risk and there are those who believe the suffering of any of our fellow creatures should be mitigated.
I currently fall in the former category, but I'm working on becoming vegetarian because I believe in the latter as an ideal.
But it's not crazy to believe such a thing. It's a personal moral choice.

(1,044 posts)If your pet's life is worth risking your own welfare, why wouldn't another animal's? It just seems this is an emotional reaction - you love your pets, and I understand that. But how is it's life worth more than that of another animal, beyond your emotional attachment?

Shelter Cove Drowning Victim Identified
Archer and the dog were swept into the water while the man was slapped against the rock. According to Parris, he sustained lots of lacerations on his stomach and arms. The man managed to pull himself up the rock and called 911. Even though local rescue crews and the Coast Guard believed at times that they might have to arrange a rescue from the rock, the man struggled to the top of the cliff where he met with rescuers.
Archers body was found floating about 300 feet offshore. The dog eventually made it to shore and ran back to his home.

Hard as it might be to see your pet swept out in the ocean, it has a better chance than you do.
