House Republicans Vote Down Increase In Minimum Wage

By Annie-Rose Strasser on Mar 15, 2013 at 4:22 pm

House Republicans on Friday unanimously voted down a bill that would have raised the minimum wage. Six Democrats joined them in defeating the effort.

The vote came after a surprise move by Democrats, who tacked onto a jobs training program bill an amendment that would have brought the national $7.25 minimum wage to $10.10 by 2015. But Republicans managed to defeat the effort while approving the bill overall.

A few weeks back, House Minority Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) came out in support raising minimum wage, responding President Obama’s State of the Union call for a wage increase. Pelosi’s effort, and the effort proposed Friday, would actually bring the minimum wage up higher than Obama’s suggestion of $9.

If the minimum wage were brought up to $10.10 an hour, it would not be a revolutionary hike; rather, it would be indexed to inflation and consistent with historical borrowing power. Had the minimum wage been indexed to inflation in 1968, it would be $10.40.

I am glad I voted against him in the lat election. He is worse than a repub, he is a placeholder for them and keeps Savannah from having a real democrat as its representative. Fuck him.

4. an issue for 2014

Harry Reid needs to pound away on this issue as well, the Dem party can base their whole 2014 on this one issue and win.

"Even while corporate profits soar and the stock market reaches new highs, the working poor continue to fall further and further behind," Miller said in a prepared statement. "If the Republicans want to take away a priority of service for low income Americans who want to learn new skills for a better job and a better life, the least we can do is make sure these workers get a decent wage."

I think that DLC/Third Way feel "Food Stamp Program" is "being taken advantage of" and they are in league with those wanting to destroy our Social Structure...that we deal with while we keep Bailing out the
Bank/Wall Street Criminals because THEY are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than the Peasants who lost their jobs to CHINA...and will lose MORE...with the "SECRET..TPP Trade Agreement."

I dunno...what do you think about these policies by DLC..Morphed to "Third Way" going forward?
