Notes from the domestic frontier of austere: Disaster Capitalism in Kansas by royal fiat:

SUBSIDY-Sam Brownback continues to display royal Republican traits toward his own-party "underlings". Typically ir-responsible, wouldn't you say?

Respect for other Kansas stake holders, even in the same party, died when city-county-subject-matter-experts' budget annotations were changed without their consultation, resulting in a shift of some $580.+Million in bills to be paid, onto city and county budgets and leaving local, mostly Republican politicians, to either raise taxes and fees or reduce and cut services and programs altogether.

http://cjonline.com/news/2013-03-14/officials-upset-budget-chief-obscured-impact-tax-bill

Gov. Sam Brownback's state budget director changed a property tax bill's fiscal note this week to obscure the predicted impact to local governments, causing officials who represent Kansas cities and counties to cry foul.

Melissa Wangemann, the legislative director and general counsel for the Kansas Association of Counties, said she believes the move was "absolutely" politically motivated and should concern legislators who rely on the fiscal notes attached to each proposed bill.

......

But there was a second change that was more unsettling to Wangemann. The original fiscal note stated the bill would force local governments to either raise fees, raise mill levies, or cut spending because it would reduce assessed property valuations by about $583.6 million statewide.

Anderson's revised fiscal note did not change that number — but removed the three possible outcomes.

You got what you deserve. I feel bad for the people who didn't vote for him.

individual persons to whom you refer, whom you damn, while granting yourself whatever forgiveness you think you deserve for mistakes which you assume are less significant than those of people you don't know.

Are you aware that you appear to be a bigot? . . . Probably not.

you can say will change that. Hey I also feel we here in Tn got what we deserve. I feel bad for those of us who didn't want these wack jobs. It's nothing personal. We have a representative that just loves to do a job on gays by making stupid bills. We have them here in Tn. Sorry for your hurt feelings. Someone made a comment and I made a comment. If they don't like it stop whining about it and get the vote out. It is in your power. Hopefully the good people of KS will wake up out of that fog just like am praying the good people here in Tn wake the hell up before its to late. It's nothing personal.

about it too, and around here employers think nothing of discriminating on whatever basis they wish.

The ones we should weep for are the ones who are so much more at risk than I am. Think of the generations of suffering and loss ahead of them!!!

I have many families members there. Property taxes (at least where they all live) are already off the charts and they will only get worse.

I remember when Kansans took pride in their public education system and boasted that they had the highest literacy rate of any state. It is sad. I am actually glad that my parents did not live to see what is happening.

thanks for posting this. I am guessing there about about 20 people or less who give a damn what happens here. I used to post things about Kansas and about the Kansas Equality Coalition but they all sank like a stone. Post something about WBC or something really snarky about the thousands of stupid things that happen here (AND in some of the oh so wonderful liberal lands) and you will get a million responses, most of them somewhat like your first response.

Keep trying. When I see one of your posts I will join in because I do also think we are important here. Those that do not, well tough shit. Thanks.

Hugs for you, MuseRider!

I will keep this up, so others will know what's going to happen to them, even though, personally, I think the best we can hope for from "our" representation for this state, almost ALL of it, that is . . . with a few fine exceptions, like Paul Davis (Lawrence, of course), the BEST we can hope for is mediocrity.

I have my own problems with Paul (matters with others like Jan Pauls). Whatever.........I said earlier this year that people should just wait, it was going to get worse here and be very interesting. Everyone said stuff like, move away, your fault all those lovely things.

Quite frankly I would rather live through this than live in some place where everyone was alike, thought alike, voted alike etc. To each their own but those in the areas where so many are alike are very cruel and nasty from time to time. It gets very old and makes me far less tolerant of people who are supposed to be like me. Glad to be out in the middle of nowhere where I don't have to deal with them unless I want to.

The Dems need money. Without it they will go nowhere, they also need new big shots. This DLC mediocre attitude is causing us to not even be able to run someone against that disgusting Brownback. I have not heard of any thoughts on a candidate and I am fairly well connected. Hopefully I am just behind. If at all possible they will blow a great chance to be able to elect a Democrat.

a living breathing F- You!!, although I can be a pretty nice person about how I go about doing that and, although also, I often daydream of going somewhere where there are more people like me around.

THANK goodness for KC's Occupy!

Yeah, mediocre is the password in KS Democratic Party. I did have a nice little fire-brand to back last year, Amy Bell; the party was all but hostile to her, really!, she was upsetting their apple-cart and almost succeeded in beating Barbara Bollier, whom it is now said might become a Democrat, which will be a completely use-less thing to do. Of all of our "losers" Amy did the best; I will be keeping my eye on her, mediocre she isn't! Don't know what she's going to do though.

Gotta go make supper. See you around, MuseRider!

KEC helped run a young gay man against Jan Pauls after she co-wrote all those nasty anti gay proposals with Lance Kinzer. He lost only by 8 votes. Young and openly gay and he lost after all her years by only 8 votes. It takes a HUGE effort to get a Democrat who might be worthwhile and someone who might fight. I miss the moderate Republicans, they certainly helped keep things from going overboard like they are now.

There is a very nasty bill headed to the Senate. I can't remember which one but you will be hearing about it. It passed the house this week. Sneaky, nasty stuff in it. If it passes it will have to be fought in court as anti constitutional. I simply can't imagine anyone voting for it but then from what I have learned being around these people most of them never read the stuff they vote on anyway.

Enjoy your supper. I am headed to dress rehearsal. always good to talk to you.

I'm always interested in Kansas news. I was born there and my grandfather was a Dem in the state legislature. My great great grandparents were Kansas farmers and socialists. In fact , my grandfather had a copy of An Appeal to Reason ( largest circulation socialist newspaper in US history, published in KS) that he got from them. I currently live in NC where Koch brother backed Republicans have taken over the state. We've had a Dem majority in the legislature for 100 years and Dem governors for 28 but in 3 months the Republicans have managed to turn the state upside down. It's disgusting.
