North Dakota Poised to Ban Abortions at 6 Weeks
The North Dakota Senate "approved banning abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, sending what would be the most stringent abortion restrictions in the U.S. to the state's Republican governor for his signature," the Fargo Forum reports.
"The measure would ban most abortions if a fetal heartbeat can be detected, something that can happen as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. The House already approved the measure. Gov. Jack Dalrymple generally opposes abortion but has not said whether he will sign the bill into law."

(14,337 posts)Having had a ectopic pregnancy at 5 weeks, and had to fight a Catholic Hospital to even see my songram, there is NOTHING TO SEE at that stage. Hearbeat, my ASS.
See that little head, arms, legs? Hell, no. KIDNEY BEAN is what that sonogram looked like, and that is probably why they didn't want to SHOW it to me.

(47,992 posts)abroad, there is no standing on the subject of abortion, because any point about value of human life is already lost and the "Pro-Life" position is REALLY only a quibble about who pays for what killing.

Week 6 Gestational Age (Fetal age 4 weeks)
5 ½ to 6 ½ weeks is usually a very good time to detect either a fetal pole or even a fetal heart beat by vaginal ultrasound. The fetal pole is the first visible sign of a developing embryo. This pole structure actually has some curve to it with the embryos head at one end and what looks like a tail at the other end. The fetal pole now allows for crown to rump measurements (CRL) to be taken, so that pregnancy dating can be a bit more accurate. The fetal pole may be seen at a crown-rump length (CRL) of 2-4mm, and the heartbeat may be seen as a regular flutter when the CRL has reached 5mm.
