Neither a borrower nor a... oh, Whatever

House Budget Committee Member Vicky Hartzler (R-MO): Said in a floor speech: “Families I talk to, they say, Every year we balance our budget, how come Washington doesn’t? Every small business I visit says, We balance our budget, how come Washington doesn’t? Every farmer and rancher I visit with says, We balance our budget, how come Washington doesn’t?”

Reported five real estate mortgages totaling more than $900,000.

Nothing special about Ms. Hartzler. This is from 14 GOP Congressmen Who Think Government Shouldn’t Borrow Have Big Debts Of Their Own.

But something funny about the Republicans who all have mortgages, yet decry borrowing...

When a family or business or ranch "balances their budget" it does not mean they have no debt. It means that their budget includes service of the debt they have.

Ms. Hartzler obviously thinks living within your means and being a good person means that you pay your mortgage bill to service your debt... live up to your agreements.

Every now and then Congress is called upon to do the equivalent of paying our mortgage bill, by raising the debt limit to ensure that our existing obligations are taken care of.

And they are so gracious about it.
