when i go out

i always open the door for my wife
its a courtesy extended to her for her constant suffering
often others will also enter through the door as i hold it open
as if i am a volunteer doorman
am i exploiting them by holding the door?
or are they exploiting me by using my door opening to enter even though they are in no way related to the primary door opening?
am i only exploiting the female door passers or am i exploiting all? am i being exploited en masse by all who slip through while i hold the door?
if i let the door go knowing it would strike them would i be negligent? or would they for not watching the door?
what about the men who go through?am i expressing a subservience or showing dominance by mastering the art of door holding?
am i making a social comment on the gay people who walk through even though i have no idea which they are?
so many questions

there are so many important things to be concerned about that being concerned over this seems unimportant.

That poor person is harming people daily and may not be aware of it. We need to get the message out (maybe we could petition the white house to have a PSA about it so folks will learn what harm door holding can result in. Where is c everett koop when we need him?)

In your case you could get something like a subway card - each time you hold the door for someone have them punch it based on if they are female, male, old, handicap, etc and when you reach a limit for one you can longer do it for that group until all the other ones are punched out equally.
