As you've probably heard by now, Jeb Bush called his brother an "idiot" and the GOP is on an amazing "confess and then shrug it off campaign" the likes of which I've never seen before. Just for the record, you are NOT crazy and your memory is correct:

Yep. Bush's brother now calls him "an idiot". They admit it like it is some little joke now.
Well, ha, fucking ha! Some joke. Republicans are pathetic.

(22,785 posts)If Al Gore or John Kerry had been President, that collapse would have never happened. Never.
I agree that it was the policies, but those policies have been around from the 19th Century. And they always brought ruin.
Bush was President. Those were his cherished policies. He drove the agenda. He caused it.

(22,785 posts)The bull collapse came during Poppy's time. And I agree with you that those 12 years set in motion a lot of pain, but the fact is that when Bill Clinton was President, the nation was at peace and over 20 million new (brand new) jobs were created with real paychecks and Americans remember that.

(28,498 posts)Thousands of priests molesting young boys and a Church hierarchy all the way up to the Pope either ignoring it or covering it up and no one goes to jail. No one even sees the inside of a courtroom.
The same thing with the Wall Street bankers. Crash the economy due to their criminal malfeasance and no one goes to jail. No one even sees the inside of a courtroom.
Bush and Cheney now yuck it up because they lied this country into war, killing 100s of thousands, and walk away rich men. No one goes to jail; no one even sees the inside of a courtroom.
And so it goes...

Powell certainly had his screw ups in the Iraq war (we all know about his bit at the UN with the alleged evidence of Saddam's WMDs, supplied by Tenet's CIA by the way) but you are the very first one I heard to blame My Lai on him. Links or facts or something please.

(64,979 posts)PR machine has had a lot of people fooled (even among liberals) for a loooong time. Just keep in mind that the opportunistic careerist Michael Powell learned his--ah--flexible ethics at his daddy's knee. Daddy knew how to do what he needed to do to get and keep high positions, too, and when the war criminals in the CheneyBush administration needed a convincing face to put on the Iraq invasion lies, they turned to Colin Powell. And even though he knew it was all "bulls**t" (as he specifically called the pages providing "intelligence" to serve as the basis for his speech to the UN when he flung them up in the air and all over the floor), he nevertheless chose to go along with the fraud and use his (undeserved) reputation to help dupe the American people.

Which is also not an apology for his crimes.
Did you read Richard Clarke's account of the early days of the shrub maladministration?

(64,979 posts)On edit: He knew the evidence was false. He threw the pages of "intelligence" he was given up in the air, all over the floor, and said, "This is bulls**t!" He knew!
His goody-goody pretense now about being dismayed by Republican misbehavior (and his aide, Larry Wilkerson's, speaking out against the Iraq invasion) reminds me of Sandra Day O'Connor's speeches after the CheneyBush administration started really shredding the Constitution. She knew she would be reviled in history,s o she started running around making speeches defending the Constitution agains the excesses the CheneyBush administration were committing against it.

(10,287 posts)guilty rather than less
if he had gotten the intel and not thought it bullshit then gone in front of america and said what he said that would be less guilty
he read it, said it was shite, and then came out and lied to us about it.
he didnt resign until much later which shows his complicity
he is right up there with cheney in terms of guilt
in fact since cheney couldnt have gotten the whole thing to go over without him
he may even be more guilty than cheney

(478 posts)that conservatives have an overwhelming need for control. And they want people like themselves in control regardless of how incompetent they are. They want to know that someone like themselves will be grossly over reacting when the poo hits the fan. Like minded incompetence is superior to tolerant progressive competence, strange as it may seem.

(10,597 posts)...they know they can. All of them got away with the crime of the century right in the dawn of the new one. If this was a true democracy, they would have been held accountable. The Supreme Court, which brought GW to power, and everyone in GW's administration. Above International Law, evidently. And above the law, nationally. Too big to bring to trial. Too big to be held accountable. Too big to fail. And ever since PO came to office, they've been laughing their arses off all the way to the bank. The joke is on us, and the world. Shame on us and the world to allow crimes against humanity to continue on unabated. Shame on us for letting the Republican war criminals run free and laugh in our faces. Yes, Republicans are truly pathetic.

Just had to move it down a half inch. Would have looked fine as a attention getting cover. Minus the fake male machismo bravado shit.
All the shit he pulled, all the people he killed, Americans AND foreigners, fucker oughta be emasculated at every turn. Show him as a mistake, a hollow shell of a human, so maybe people don't get duped by that bullshit ever again.
I've seen people talk about this sort of image, this event as something that showed what a good president he was, the decider'er in chief. It was all a fake, empty persona, with no knowledge, no true leadership to back it up.
What a waste of time, destroyed lives, and even destroyed national prosperity. A myth that must be un-done utterly and completely. No point maintaining any positive imagery of him anywhere. It's all fake, plaster and mortar, intended to fool people into thinking there was a reason to trust in his 'leadership'.

Bush is responsible for the deaths of 1 million Iraqis an 300,000 Americans. Maybe SEAL TEAM SIX should have stormed the compund of the REAL terrorist to Americans on May 1, 2011. Bush is the WORST president in the nation's history. Let's not forget Abu Ghraib.
