Bachmann: If We Cared, We'd Cure Alzheimer's Disease in Ten Years

Rep. Michele Bachmann delivered a typically incoherent speech at CPAC this year which revolved around the theme of caring; specifically, conservatives care and liberals do not.

To demonstrate her point, Bachmann claimed that people cared back in the 1950s, which was why Dr. Jonas Salk found a vaccine for polio and then gave it to President Eisenhower who, because he also cared, then gave it to all Americans.

Contrast that to today when the nation is facing the costs associated with treating Alzheimer's Disease when "a much smarter strategy would be to develop a cure. That's caring!"

According to Bachmannm, we could easily find a cure for Alzheimer's within ten years "if we'd only put our mind* to it," but we are not even trying to find cures for things like this and cancer and diabetes because there is too much government regulation and taxation.

well, ms bachmann, why don't you introduce legislation that would fund such a project? i'm sure your big-hearted, caring colleagues would gladly sign on & co-sponsor.

5. If we had more government regulation, we'd have less cancer.

Especially if we regulated the tobacco and petroleum industries' pollution more. And if we taxed them more, we could use that money to fund cancer and Alzheimer's cures.

the party of Reagan, who for 6 or 7 years slept while a million died from AIDS until one of his personal friends died from it.

Yeah, if only we had 53 years in a row of democratic presidents, these diseases probably would have been cured or handled by now.

(BTW, although there is no 100% proof so don't ask, it is widely assumed based on words spoken, that Nancy Reagan herself voted for Obama in 2008 and that stem cell research, and what Ronnie died from is the reason).

Hard to understand why funding was cut since my father had been diagnosed, he was a hard working man who paid his taxes and provided for his family. Later and before the news broke about Reagan also was suffering from Alzheimer because I had also seen my father having the same movements. This is an awful condition but it turned Reagan cut funding for something his family would deal directly with. Until you have been with a loved one with Alzheimer you may not understand. The medical cost in caring for someone with Alzheimer is very high. It is not we do not care, funds has to be applied to do research. Unless Bachmann is willing to show effort to provide for funding then she needs to sit down and listen, stop the never ending we have a spending problem and say she now has a caring problem, fund the research.
