Proof that assbags in our own party are sexist dickheads

As a rare Democrat in deep red Nebraska, I am disgusted that this took place and even more disgusted with the mayor's half-assed repudiation of it:

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130318/NEWS/703199957/1685#sexist-attacks-against-stothert-among-most-disgusting-one-national-expert-has-seen

"Sexist attacks against Stothert among most 'disgusting' one national expert has seen

Jean Stothert, a Republican candidate with the potential to become Omaha's first female mayor, endured two assaults on her gender in the past week that one national observer said were among the most “disgusting” sexist attacks she had ever seen leveled at a woman politician.

One assault came in the form of a T-shirt that depicted Stothert as a stripper on a pole. It came with a crude word pun that revolved around the words: “private sector.”

A grinning Democratic City Councilman Chris Jerram was pictured holding the T-shirt in a snapshot that was making the Facebook rounds Monday. Jerram has since apologized to Stothert and to the “women of our community.”

The other alleged attack came from an anonymous Twitter account that used language needing a public disclaimer. If you don't want to be offended, stop reading now. The offensive Tweet included a reference to Stothert's vagina, blood and “a weekend on phrat row.”

You know last week i would have thought that he was just a Dino and was never really progressive just pretending to be a democrat to get into power, but after some of the anti feminist and sexist stuff i have seen on DU this week i am more then willing to believe someone from our party is capable of this.

you know, abortion. and we need to focus on that one issue. he is trying to herd us in that direction, and we just are not cooperating. we keep wandering off on other issues we may think needs some focus. makes a man grumpy.

it could be a false flag thing. I agree that our candidate screwed up royally when he did the shirt thing.

I can't find the story I read it in, but apparently, many of the "less offensive" sexist comments were re-tweeted by someone in the mayor's office. They have since been removed.

Makes me sad.

Female mayor has mayor pro-tem attend all male dinner in her place

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022527584

From the article:

Walsh has been studying women candidates for years. She said women who run for high office sometimes face public scrutiny that their male counterparts don't have to endure, including comment on their clothes and hair. But, she has never seen anything quite like the attacks leveled at Stothert.

I would say this is true, but men (such as Edwards and Clinton) also had people attack them over their hair as well.

Women do get more such comments, but they have a lot more styles and choices than men generally speaking. If bush had a press conference in a polka dot dress with stripped shoes I wold have certainly made some comment about it (and not because he was wearing a dress, many would but that would be sexist - why can't men wear dresses anyway without ridicule?) because it would be a fashion faux pa by an elected and public figure.

Men are just bland as hell. Red or blue ties - if they wore one with a pic of daffy duck on it I would probably take note of such.

Once men and women all dress the same I could see it being more sexist to call out the woman over the man wearing the same thing. Right now they I pretty much know it will be a dark suit, white or blue shirt, solid tie mostly, and dark shoes. It is how I think we have come to expect men to dress.

When are we going to lose that silk thing around our neck?

For a while we started to go to turtlenecks like Carl Sagan but we keep falling back to that stupid "tie" that is totally non-functional,...

....unless you want to grab one on someone else to keep them in punching range.

The Pope, wearing a fabulous vintage chiffon-lined Dior gold lame gown
over a silk Vera Wang empire waist tulle cocktail dress,
accessorized with a three-foot House of Whoville hat and
the ruby slippers Judy Garland wore in the Wizard of Oz, on his way to tell us it's Wrong to be Gay.
