10 Years After Iraq Invasion: Continued Myths, Hundreds of Thousands Killed

This week marks ten years since the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

The Iraq war, which most today in the U.S. see as a mistake, has cost the U.S. trillions of dollars, billions of which were "wasted."

But the devastation for the people of Iraq is incalculable: hundreds of thousands have been killed, over a million remain refugees and U.S. weapons used in the country, such as depleted uranium, have left a haunting legacy far past the drawdown of U.S. troops.

While many mark March 19, 2003 as the day the U.S.-led invasion of the country began, crippling sanctions against Iraq began more than a decade before. And while the George W. Bush administration launched the war, it found willing partners in the Democratic party and corporate media. Below are some voices offering perspective on the anniversary and lead-up to the invasion:

is being championed by many for the Democratic nomination for President.

We should all at least do our part to make the perpetrators of this horrible crime not be rewarded.

All the remembrance in the world won't change that. The liars, the corrupt, the abusers of power and war criminals - all got away with it.

And the idea of 'history will judge them'? Fart noises.

Written history has never held anyone accountable. Words in a book that people discuss and debate the validity of isn't accountability. Not saying an actual truthful telling of history isn't important - it just isn't accountability. No one fears history judging them.

Just plain disgusting.

Books will be written and have been written and they are discussed along partisan lines. So and so said that because they hate Bush. So and so said that because they are Bush toadies. It becomes nothing more than a matter of opinion, facts forgotten or crushed beneath the framing of it all being opinion.

The so-called torture debate, for example. The "some have called (waterboarding/EIT)" torture, meaning others have not so the whole point is a matter of opinion. Never mind that it is torture...it's been reduced to opinion and open for debate.

And America will debate and chew on it like a piece of gristle but that's all it will do. Pretending they are learning ways to prevent those "mistakes" (lies, trumped up evidence, abuses of power, war crimes) from happening again. Patting itself on the back for being so transparent about its "mistakes" and willing to do something about them. That something being more talk, more debate....but never accountability.

Now that he's in his second term and doesn't have to worry about getting reelected (Darn!), he's free to go after the whole Bush gang -Dick, Rummy, Condi- all those guys and Yoo, too!

It's going to be a glorious thing, just you wait!

Woohoo! Fired up for January 12-19, 2017!

Finally, Bush, Cheney, Rice, etc. Arrest these monsters, charge them as war criminals. Why are these monsters free? Arrest, prosecute, and if judged, execute these war monsters. Why the hell are these people not in prison??

in the political climate in Washington today there would be carnage. IMHO that is
Its hard enough for the republicons to have to deal with a black man as President and AG. We have a lot of crazy people who have shown just how stupid and dangerous they are by their show of weapons at places the President has shown up.
Personally I think the ICC will ultimately deal with these war criminals. thats what the court is for if it is shown that a government can't for whatever reason no deal with these kinds of people that they will step in at some point.

My bet is the war criminals will see the dock at the Hague before this is all said and done. Thats why I'm happy to see the dick of a war criminals death be prolonged as long as humanly possible.

I don't think that war criminals can stop the ICC from doing their job no matter how much they have themselves and others convinced that they are above the law. The laws of justice grinds ever so slowly but thoroughly.

Not ever gonna happen, these monsters will never see justice in our lifetime. By the time this country does the right thing, these war criminals will be old, dead, and our youth won't care. It is very hard to convince people like my sister, who lost a son, that our hero's died for no good reason, God Damn Them.
