Not to legitimize the current government, but instead of furthering false narratives, Americans should cautiously digest every crumb of U.S. media misinformation with a skeptical swallow. Instead of over generalizing an entire diverse country, wish a Persian a Happy New Year, and pray for the Iranian people to rid themselves of their theocracy.
The people of Iran are not our "enemies", they have a long, proud tradition of self-governance and steadfast courage. Take the time to learn about their rich culture, and understand what crippling sanctions can do to normal working people. Iranians hardly deserve the constant vilification caused by the saber rattling by each of our respective governments.
Maybe the Mullahs will meet their Waterloo soon. I hope they do, but it is not up to me or my country to cause it.
Happy New Years!

(1,135 posts)if the republicans have their way. we would be at war with Iran. If a rethug were in the WH, we would already be preparing for a war. They have been working on the brainwashing, that Muslims are the enemy, in preparation to preventing more of the people's resistance to another war.
But yes! Happy New Years to the great people of Iran. Bless you all!

(10,751 posts)...it is frightening to me when I hear the Very Important People talking about Iran as though it is an evil empire. Of course I do not like the regime in charge right now, but on the other hand, it was our own meddling that helped to propel the extremists into power there.
And it's not just Republicans beating the drums about Iran; plenty of Democrats are on board as well.
After all, the MIC must be fed, so the pockets of the 1% can continue to be lined.
