(9,753 posts)Democrats with spines can make this a winning issue, not something to run from. It's not complicated -- tell voters the truth and ask them whether there's any connection between protection and the AR-15 and its bretheren. The answer is, of course, No.

(49,445 posts)They simply couldn't buy from that particular dealer. Doesn't mean they didn't illegally get a gun later on.
Of course it helps; not being able to buy from a dealer limits your options to the scattered secondary market.
Universal background checks would be effective. Even more so when combined with yearly purchase and selling limits.
