many desperate homeless I had been seeing lately, she asked why didn't they get jobs. I told her many had jobs and didn't get paid enough to pay rent so they had to live in their cars. I don't think she believed me. Of course she listens to Fox News all the time.

When I was in downtown Denver a while back and went past the area where the homeless hang out I was just astounded at how many people were in that area. It is more than I have ever seen since I have been in Denver since 1972. And there were people of all ages and many young people and some really old people.

It is a national disgrace.

these poor people have to walk miles to get what they need in different directions and we don't have good public transit. It's not like they can get a hot meal and a cot and some medical attention on the same block. Yet our wealthy and well off don't seem to be aware of this and only see dirty people they think are too lazy to work.

where they keep the homeless out in order to cater to "normal folks". Poverty is at its highest level since after WWII and NO ONE is talking about it. Obama isn't making it a major issue and for that I fault him. This should be one of his top 3 priorities.

The numbers for jobs are off big. They do not add how many of the new jobs are held by people that needed a second or third job.

Add to the problem is those that need to get any job are fighting with these people that already have one for the jobs. We NEED a living wage so people can work one job and leave open other jobs for others to work too.

or everything is just too high thing. Good food is unaffordable, rent is off the chart for shacks, gas, clothes. They say prices are whatever the market will bare is BULLSHIT. People are just getting used to struggling in America as SOP. They just make do because that is all they can do. Many have just lost hope and survival is their job. I am ashamed of America, it has been a lie my entire 60 years. Frog in the frying pan, turn the heat up slowly and he'll never know.

Like the people I've seen wandering around the streets and parking lots selling socks and DVDs. It's a sure path to success!

Despite what they say, working hard is never either once someone gets said "entry level job". Not all workplaces allow any employees to advance. Not everyone has the ability to advance since statistically not everyone can be top 10%. Not everyone with ability to otherwise do a job well gets along well with the people that can help them advance.
In today's economy, many people are working for under $10/hour. While some individuals will advance, many will not and continue to be poor no matter how hard they work.
