4-Year-Old Blind Boy Takes a Giant Step

Gavin Stevens, 4, has been blind since birth. Yet he is the latest viral video sensation.
In the video, he is seen taking a small step off the curb. Sounds pretty basic, right? Well, this is actually a huge step for the little guy.
You see, Gavin goes to a special needs preschool in Santa Ana, California, and every day after school his mother picks him up and escorts him to the curb to help the little guy step down. On this particular day, Gavin insisted he try it all by himself, telling his mom, “No, I’ll do it.”
Of course, mom Jennifer Stevens, whips out her phone to begin filming this major milestone, and you will be glad she did because what follows is really amazing. Gavin inches closer and closer to the curb using his guide stick for help, all while telling himself, “I can do it, I can do it.” He finally gets both feet off the curb. And if you’re anything like me (and hundreds of thousands of other people), you’ll be cheering when does.
Gavin’s mom told Today.com, “He’s so determined. He doesn’t know he’s blind. I don’t think he understands he is different. We treat him like we do our oldest son. We just try to make sure he’s safe.”
